Digital Consent Form

Annually, FCPS must ask parents to sign a digital consent form.  This form lists software that MAY be used at Cedar Lane, the list is published by FCPS.  It is a standard list for High Schools in Fairfax County, and we include any Academy software and textbooks that are necessary.  The form is available online and is easy to complete.  You will get many follow ups from us if you have not completed the form either by opting out or accepting.  The web page to accept the digital consent form is here:

Return To Learn (RTL)

Intention: Our goal in scheduling a Return Period is to provide additional structured opportunities for students to receive instructional support, additional time for work completion, curriculum re-teaching and review, and/or enrichment learning opportunities in a student’s class.

Students who are receiving a grade of a 66% or below are identified as requiring academic intervention.  In this case, the return period will be focused on the instruction and tasks required to improve a students grade and to prevent a student from failing a class for the quarter, semester, or school year.

Overview of Schedule: The Return Period will happen during 4th Period on Tuesday/Thursday or Wednesday/Friday. Return Periods will follow the sequential bell schedule (Periods, 1,2,3,5,6,7,8). On average, students will have opportunities for support once per month for an hour with their classroom teacher. Additionally, Cedar Lane has built in schoolwide designated make-up days. On these days, students will have an opportunity to go to their classes according to the gold/black day schedule, and will have an opportunity to complete assignments, receive instructional and assignment completion support with their classroom teachers. There will be no new instruction, new assignments, or assessments on these days.   The RTL schedule is on the Cedar Lane Calendar on the web site:  https://cedarlaneschool.fcps.edu/happenings/calendar

Anticipated Bus Delays

Due to the bus driver shortage, FCPS will be increasing “double back” bus runs, meaning a bus is required to run two scheduled routes back to back that would normally have been covered by two separate buses. These “double backs” may impact delivery time to schools or bus stops and may have a domino effect, affecting after-school drop-off times. links to https://www.fcps.edu/return-school/anticipated-bus-delays-what-families-can-expect

PSAT Information

This is a reminder that Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) will offer the Preliminary SAT (PSAT)/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) to students in grades 10-11 on October 13, 2021. A PSAT/NMSQT Testing Notification letter is posted online. Students with disabilities who have testing accommodations documented in a 504 plan or an individualized education plan (IEP) may be eligible for testing accommodations on the PSAT/NMSQT. The College Board must approve a formal request for each student. If the student already has College Board accommodations approved from a previous PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10, SAT, or AP test, then no further action is needed. Once instated, accommodations remain in place for all College Board testing. The Accommodations Process for College Board Testing webpage provides instructions on how to request College Board testing accommodations. To request new or amended College Board accommodations for the October PSAT/NMSQT, return the forms to Cedar Lane by August 10, 2021.

There are two forms to return: an input form on which you will circle the requested accommodations, and a consent form signed by parent/guardian and student. Instructions can be found at https://www.fcps.edu/node/38354. If preferred, paper forms can be printed from this link: https://www.fcps.edu/sites/default/files/media/forms/CollegeBoardTestAccommEnclosuresEnglish.pdf

The Parent Technology Help Desk will continue to support parents and students through the summer months.

Beginning on Monday, June 14, we are moving the service to our in-house Service Desk. Outside of those hours, parents can also visit the Parent and Student IT Support Portal to find self-help resources or submit a tech support request ticket.

Universal Masking for SY 2021-22
