Keeping Our Schools Safe: Response to Cases at School

Covid flow chart

Sunrise Valley has had a strong start to the school year.  The joyful noise in our hallways and classrooms is uplifting.  SVES has had zero positive cases, quarantines or isolation.

FCPS has a dashboard that documents all positive cases at schools.

FCPS’ goal is to keep students learning in-person all year. We are doing our part by implementing layered prevention strategies and working with FCHD to address positive cases and potential exposures.

Every FCPS student and family can do their part by wearing masks, getting vaccinated when they are eligible, practicing healthy hygiene, and staying home when sick.

Notifications, pausing, quarantining, and isolating are tools we use to keep schools safe when a positive COVID-19 case is reported. Understanding the difference between the three scenarios can help families be prepared. FCPS uses these  procedures  to respond to a COVID positive case at school

During periods of paused in-person instruction, isolation or quarantine, asynchronous learning will be provided to students.  In cases where an entire class is affected and the teacher is not experiencing symptoms, virtual and synchronous learning is provided.

Covid 19 Symptoms

This is just a friendly reminder that there are very stringent protocols in place for “COVID-19 like” symptoms in school.  We appreciate your extra vigilance this year as we are now facing this highly contagious Delta variant of COVID-19.

If your child is experiencing any of these in the morning before school, please keep them at home.  Otherwise, they will be sent to the Care Room and sent home, and may not return without a clearance from a medical professional.

  • Fever greater than 100.4
  • A new cough (not due to another health condition)
  • Headache (not due to another health condition, hunger, thirst, stress or injury)
  • A new sore throat (not related to another health condition)
  • Abdominal Pain (unrelated to hunger, constipation, injury or stress)
  • Nausea/Vomiting/Diarrhea (not associated with a chronic gastrointestinal condition)
  • Runny nose/Congestion (unrelated to allergies or another health condition)
  • New loss of taste, smell or appetite
  • Fatigue (more than normal or sudden onset)
  • New muscle pain (unrelated to a health condition or P.E./Recess)

If your child has seasonal allergies or a health condition please let the School Health Aide know.

As always please feel free to reach out to the School Health Aide (Yara) with any questions.

Kiss & Ride

Just like the beginning of every other school year, the first few days and weeks of school can be hectic as everyone gets used to the schedule, logistics, and timing of getting students to and from school.  This year, the arrival and dismissal processes have been very challenging due to the increased volume of vehicles in the Kiss and Ride (K&R), increased walkers, and the bus driver shortage.

To help in these challenging times, we want to share some safety guidelines that are  helpful and also include practices that will increase the efficiency for everybody.

  • When driving in the K & R refrain from using cell phones
  • No passing
  • Drivers must remain in the car
  • Children can recognize and are actively looking for their car to pull up
  • Children may enter and exit on passenger side only
  • Make sure your child can buckle and unbuckle safety belts/ car seats and open/close doors on their own; this may require practicing these procedures at home
  • Display your student’s name in the windshield
  • Do not enter the staging area to pick children up
