West Springfield ES - Health Reminders

Dear West Springfield Families,

Yesterday, I sent you a lengthy email via e-Notify regarding COVID protocols and procedures in FCPS. I strongly encourage you to read the information to best understand our policies that we must implement to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff at West Springfield.

A few things I want to stress:

  • Review the Daily Health Screening. When in doubt, keep your child home if they have any illness. Your child may return the next day if they are feeling better and if they had a fever, they are fever free for 24 hours.
  • Students demonstrating any of the following symptoms at school will be sent home from school:   Fever (100.4 or greater) - Chills – Cough – Shortness of breath – Loss of taste/smell – Sore throat – Fatigue – Muscle aches – Runny Nose/Congestion – Stomachache – Diarrhea – Nausea/Vomiting – Headaches.  The parent/guardian will be notified and a SICK STUDENT NOTIFICATION and RETURN to SCHOOL FORM will be sent home with the student who cannot return until completed and cleared by a doctor.
  • Please make sure your child has a properly fitting mask. We are routinely seeing students wearing adult-sized masks not properly fitting; thus exposing their nose and/or mouth.
  • Please do not send your child to school if they have been identified as a close contact to COVID case.  A negative COVID test does not clear your child to return to school. Students who are identified as a close contact with someone with COVID must remain home for 14 days after their last exposure.

Administration Heath Q&A
In order to provide our teachers with the opportunity to focus on the academic information related to West Springfield’s upcoming Back to School Nights, I want to offer a time and space for you to have your questions answered about our health and safety protocols before meeting with your child’s classroom teacher.
Please join Ms. Hibner and I on Thursday, September 9th at 7:00 pm virtually for a brief presentation about what we are doing to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff. We will also answer any questions you may have regarding FCPS’ COVID protocols. A link to join the meeting will be sent closer to September 9.

Thank you for helping us ensure the health and safety of our students and staff at West Springfield!
