LCES Updates, 8/27/21: 1st Week of School

gj

Way to Go LCES!

We have had an EXCITING start to the 2021-2022 school year, and we've all accomplished so much already! Students, staff and families are all learning new routines and adjusting to the schedules, including arrival and dismissal. Students are seeing old friends again, making new friends, and getting to know their classmates as teachers work to establish strong and healthy classroom communities where all students feel seen, heard, valued, and safe. We are all practicing using strategies to keep us safe and healthy as we learn and socialize together.

Throughout this week we have had strong communication between home and school. We encourage all families to keep reading this weekly newsletter in addition to emails from teachers and from FCPS. If you have questions or need help, please reach out to your child's classroom teacher or call the office at 703-227-3500.

Next Week is Spirit Week!

It's time to have some fun and celebrate our Lees Corner school spirit. ALL students and families are invited to join us next week in celebrating Spirit Week. You are welcome to join the fun every day or pick the days when you want to participate. We hope EVERYONE will participate on Thursday for Rainbow Day and a school-wide photo which will be taken outside by a drone!

Remember to #DreamBigLCES!

Join Band or Strings

Students in grades 4th-6th can choose to participate in orchestra (violin, viola, cello, bass), while students in grades 5th -6th can choose to participate in the band (flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, tuba, percussion). 5th and 6th grade students who choose an instrument will participate in a one-hour block in band or strings weekly as part of their specials rotation. 4th graders who join strings will participate in a weekly 45-minute strings class in the afternoons.

LCES' 2021-2022 Bell Schedule

bells

The Lees Corner bell schedule is 8:50 a.m. to 3:35 p.m. daily. This is the same as it has been in previous years.

Classroom instruction begins at 8:50 a.m. Students should be at school no later than 8:45 a.m. so they have time to get to class in time for the start of instruction.

Bus Route Information

bus

Thank you for your patience and support as FCPS and LCES staff work to  transport all of our bus riders to school and back home again in a safe and timely manner! We are all closely monitoring arrival and dismissal times and routines to see where changes and improvements can be made.

If you have a child in Kindergarten, remember that your child MUST be met at the bus stop by a parent, older sibling in grade 7 or older, or caregiver listed on your Emergency Care Form.

Want more information on bus locations and arrival times, including when the bus is approaching your stop? Welcome to Here Comes the Bus! Here Comes the Bus® app is a school bus tracking app that can simplify morning and afternoon routines for parents and students by giving them real-time bus location and text or email notification alerts, helping them get to the bus stop on time.  Here Comes the Bus® utilizes our GPS data and an easy-to-use customizable map that works on one or multiple devices, such as a tablet or smartphone. Kiss and Ride: Helpful Tips

Many families will use Kiss and Ride for both arrival and dismissal and the line can get long. Please be patient and kind with one another and our staff on duty! Here are a few more helpful tips:

  • morning drop-off starts at 8:35 a.m. for now. This time may be adjusted in response to traffic patterns.
  • plan on being in line early
  • drivers should remain in the car
  • school staff will be on duty to assist students in unloading and loading
  • children should unload from the car on the passenger side only
  • cars should remain in a single file line. Passing other cars is NOT allowed in order to ensure the safety of all students.
  • afternoon pick-up starts at 3:35 p.m.
  • for afternoon pick-up, please display your assigned number in the right corner of your front windshield. Make sure your child knows what your number is (ie. 352). We will use the numbers to call the students out to your car.
  • Kiss and Ride ends before 4:00 p.m. Any students who have not been picked up by that time will be taken to the office. Parents will be contacted and must come to the office to sign their child out.
