Welcome Back! #1

welcome back

Kilmer Cougars are back!

A message from Principal, Amy Miller:

Dear Kilmer Families,

The school year is off to a great start! Throughout the week students engaged in community building activities to get to know each other and the Kilmer staff. Students also explored Schoology and learned about their course content. During lunch, our students enjoyed being able to choose between eating in the cafeteria, outside, or in the Group Instruction Room.

I want to take a moment to thank the Kilmer PTA for their support of our student orientation programs such as Shifting Gears and for purchasing Kilmer t-shirts for all of our students.Thank you to our PTA for your continued support of Kilmer.

We look forward to the Kilmer Back-to-School Night on Wednesday, September 1. Parents and guardians can begin going to their child’s first period class at 5:45 PM. The teacher presentations will begin at 6:00 PM. Below are additional details about Back-to-School Night.

Sincerely,

Amy Miller, Principal

Subject: Families, We Need Your Consent for Select Digital Resources

At Kilmer Middle School, our teachers will use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. You can find our school’s list of the resources that require parental consent here: https://kilmerms.fcps.edu/adopteddigitalresources. Additionally, you can find more information about approved digital resources in FCPS here: https://www.fcps.edu/resources/technology/digital-resources.

Included on this page is also a link to a form where the enrolling parent or guardian will need to indicate whether or not their student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. This page also provides more information about how FCPS carefully reviews digital resources for approval and why we must request your consent before using certain tools. We encourage you to complete the parental consent for digital resources form as soon as possible, as your child will not be able to use the digital resources until we have received your permission. Please reach out to your students’ teacher, counselor or admin if you have questions or concerns about the digital resources we’ve chosen to use this year.

Volunteer and Fulfill Service Hour Requirements

Lemon Road Elementary School (7230 Idylwood Road) will be holding its Fall Festival on Saturday, Sept. 25 from 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM. The event is the PTA's annual fall fundraiser and its success hinges on having enough volunteers to help bring the carnival atmosphere to life. This is a great opportunity for you to fulfill service hour requirements. Middle and high school volunteers will supplement adult volunteers and help run carnival games, face painting, as well as help with set up and clean up. You can view the SignUp Genius here and all slots for middle and high school volunteers are clearly marked. If you have any questions reach out to the Lemon Road PTA at lemonroadpta@gmail.com. The onsite coordinator will be in touch with you regarding signing service hour forms if you choose to volunteer.
