Franklin Sherman Flash - Back to School Information

Welcome

There's No Place Like FSES

Dear Franklin Sherman Families,

We are so excited to start our new school year with you tomorrow.  As we welcomed back our staff last week, we shared a Wizard of Oz theme because we truly believe, "There's No Place Like FSES."   Thank you to all who joined us for our Open House and to our PTA for partnering with the Ice Cream Social.  Our PTA provided the awesome Welcome Back decorations as well!

As excited as everyone is for the start of a new school year, we know that there is always a bit of anxiety, especially as we continue to see the impact of COVID.

This Return to School - Safety web page has detailed information from FCPS regarding our layered prevention strategies.  Please be sure to send your child to school wearing a mask that is comfortable and meets the safety requirements.  We strongly encourage having an extra mask in the backpack.

We will not allow children to drink directly from the water fountains, so please send in a refillable water bottle every day.

Classrooms have sinks and plenty of hand sanitizer so that we may continue to practice good hand hygiene with all of our students.

Children who choose to eat breakfast will pick up a grab & go breakfast to eat in the classroom.  Snacks will be eaten in the classrooms as well.  Teachers have wipes so that students may wipe their desk before and after eating.

Our custodians have a schedule to wipe down high touch areas in common locations throughout the day.

Lunches will be eaten in the cafeteria.  We have spread out our lunch times so that there are a maximum of 2 grade levels in the cafeteria at one time.  We have reduced the number of students at each table.  Finally, all tables will be cleaned by adults after each class.

Please follow the guidelines to screen your child for illness everyday and keep your child home if they are presenting any COVID symptoms.  Children who come to school with COVID-like symptoms will be isolated in our Care Room and will need to be picked up immediately.  If your child displays COVID symptoms at school, you will be sent home with a form to be completed by your health care professional.

I hope that knowing we are doing all we can to implement these safety practices helps to ease your first day worries.  See you all tomorrow!

Sincerely,

Kathleen Quigley

Principal

Transportation Information

In preparation for the first day of school on tomorrow, parents are asked to review their student’s bus route assignments using their SIS ParentVue account. All staff and students riding a bus will be required to wear a mask. For more information about bus transportation, including how to access the Bus Delay Notification System, visit the Transportation page. Remember to arrive at the bus stop a few minutes early in the morning.  Please also be patient in the afternoon while bus routes are worked out.  Buses may be running late in the mornings or afternoons during this first week.

Arrival & Dismissal

We will follow the same arrival and dismissal procedures that we had in place last year.  For those who wish to drop their children off, please follow the signs for our Kiss & Ride.  Do not enter through the bus loop but continue down Brawner Street to the end of the parking lot for the Kiss & Ride entrance.  You may start dropping off your children at 9:00 am.

For Kiss & Ride dismissal, children will report to the gym.  We will take your name and call the children out as you arrive.  Dismissal starts at 4:05.  Please be prompt.

Walkers will enter through Door #1, along with bus riders.  Walkers will be dismissed from Door #4 next to the art room.  If you plan to meet your child to walk home, please do not wait in the front of the school.  We want to keep this area clear for our bus riders.

Finally, if you choose to park at the church across the street, please know that there will not be a staff member positioned there this year.  You will need to escort your child across the street.

Attendance Information

As a reminder, our school hours are 9:20 am to 4:05 pm.  Please notify us if your child will be absent or late to school.  We will have an automated “call-out” at approximately for students who were absent without prior notification. If you receive that call, please contact our office the next day.

Information about reporting an absence, tardy or early release may be found on this web page.  Please use this form to report an absence or late arrival and this form for an early release.
