Principals' Message

Good Afternoon CES,

We are very excited to welcome our CES Eagles back into the building on Monday! The staff has been working diligently this week to ensure the building is ready for your students. Safety is our number one concern as we start this year, so there may be a few changes in procedures and routines. Thank you in advance for your support and patience as we work through some of these changes.

We loved engaging with our community this week through the Welcome Walk and Back-to-School Night/Supply Drop-off. It was amazing to see so many of you at these events. We truly missed these interactions and are grateful we were able to reinstate them. Next week we have two more opportunities for the community. On Monday, we will have the PTA Boo Hoo Woo Hoo Breakfast at 9:15am on the back patio (please walk around the outside of the building). Please stop by to connect with other CES families and celebrate the first day of school. On Friday, we have our PTA Welcome Back Picnic at 5:30pm on the Blacktop. Join us to celebrate the completion of the first week of school.

The doors will open at 9:00am on Monday for the first day of school. We will be posting pictures from the day on Twitter (@centrevillees1). If you have any questions please contact the main office at 703-502-3500. Enjoy the last weekend of summer and we will be ready Monday to start the 2021-2022 school year!

Emergency Care Forms and Health Information Forms

FCPS provides weCare@school enabling parents to manage their emergency medical and contact information online. Each year we ask for your review and update of your student’s Emergency Care Form and Health Information form. This year we are going to collect this information digitally using the weCare system.

WeCare is available through your SIS ParentVue account. Please go into your WeCare account and review your student’s emergency care and health information. Any updates can be made online.  Please click submit even if no changes are made. This is very important.

More information and how to update information can be found here.

We are excited to share that students, families, and teachers throughout FCPS and in our school community will use Schoology (pronounced /SKOO-luh-jee/) as our learning management system for the 2021-2022 school year!

  • What parents need to know now:
    • As of July 2021, Blackboard 24-7 Learning or Google Classroom is no longer in use
    • Schoology has a connected web conferencing tool, Zoom
    • Schoology works with Google Drive
    • You need a SIS/ParentVUE account to login to Schoology

Parent Consent for Digital Resources

At Centreville ES our teachers will use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used.

  • Please fill out this form for each to provide your consent.  Please note:  one form must be filled out for each of your students.
  • You can find our school’s list of the resources that require parental consent here:
  • We encourage you to complete the parental consent for digital resources form as soon as possible, as your child will not be able to use the digital resources until we have received your permission.
  • For help with completing the form visit the How to Fill Out the Application Permission Form webpage.
  • If you have questions or concerns about the digital resources that may be used this year, please reach out to your child’s teacher once class placements are made available.

Greetings From Your School Health Room!

Our goal is to ensure that your student enjoys a healthful, safe school year.  Please read the following information carefully and, if you have any questions, feel free to call either your Health Room at 703-502-3510 or the school Public Health Nurse, Kathleen Boyd, RN, BSN at koboyd@fcps.edu.

Your school health room services include:

  1. Care of sick and injured students according to school guidelines.
  2. Hearing and vision screening (grades K, 3, and new to Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS), and those students referred by teachers and parents).
  3. Administration of care for students with identified problems or conditions during the school day.
  4. Coordination of care for students with identified problems or conditions during the school day.

How can you help your school health room provide the best possible care?

  • Complete and return the Health Information Form, listing specific health condition(s) that may impact your child’s school day.  A medical alert list is developed using this information to inform each child’s teacher(s) of health issues.   The health room must receive a new form each school year.  If a new form is not received for the current school year, the health room will presume the health condition(s) noted previously no longer apply and your child will be removed from the medical alert list.
  • Complete and return the Emergency Care Information Form, listing as emergency contacts someone who can be reached in a timely manner and can pick up your child should he/she become sick or injured at school.  Notify the school office and the health room of any changes to the information provided on this form. Generally, a student may remain in the health room for 15 minutes.  After that, if he or she is still feeling ill, parents will be called to take the student home.
  • Keep sick children home.  It is difficult for students to concentrate or do school work when not feeling well.
  • Children who have fevers (temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher), vomiting, or diarrhea are not able to stay in school.  Children are required to stay home for 24 hours after these conditions resolve without (fever reducing) medication.

IF MEDICATION IS TO BE ADMINISTERED AT SCHOOL, specific guidelines need to be followed in accordance with the school medication policy.  A guideline summary is included on the back of this letter.  Please read it thoroughly and keep it in a convenient location for referral if needed.  Medication forms are available in the school health room or online https://www.fcps.edu/index.php/resources/student-safety-and-wellness/school-health-services at the bottom of the page.

Thank you for your cooperation and assistance in helping to make this a safe and healthy school year for all FCPS students.

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY

STUDENTS MAY NOT TAKE MEDICATION AT SCHOOL UNLESS FCPS GUIDELINES ARE FOLLOWED:

  • Parent or guardian may authorize administration of the following medications at school by completing, signing, and dating Parts l & ll of AUTHORIZATION FOR MEDICATION:
    • Over-the-counter (OTC) medication may be given as-needed throughout the school year ONLY as a pain reliever for headaches, muscle aches, orthodontic pain, or menstrual cramps.
    • OTC medication for any other conditions may be given up to 10 consecutive school days.
    • Antibiotics and anti-virals
  • A physician must complete, sign, and date the order on Part ll of the medication form for all medications other than the situations above. Part l of the authorization form must be completed and signed by the parent or guardian. The AUTHORIZATION FOR USE OF INHALER form requires parent and student signatures on Part ll as well as the physician signature.
  • Written medication orders on Part ll of the medication form must include:
  • Diagnosis
  • Name of medication – no abbreviations
  • Dosage
  • Time medication is to be taken
  • Sequence of medication when more than one is prescribed
  • The exact condition or symptom if given on an as needed basis
  • Interval between dosages – repeat as necessary is not acceptable
  • Duration of medication order or effective dates
  • Medication label MUST match written order:
  • All prescribed medication, including physician samples, must be in a container labeled and dated by a pharmacist or physician with name of student, name of medication, dosage, and time to be taken.
  • All OTC medication must be in the original container and labeled by parent or guardian with name of student, dosage, and time to be taken.
  •  The first dose of any new medication must be given at home.
  •  The parent or guardian must transport medication to and from school. With parental permission, high school students may transport OTC medications to and from the school health room.
  • Each time there is a change in the dosage or time, a new authorization form is required. The new medication order and container label must match.
  • Students must go to the health room to receive medication. Parents should develop a plan with the student to ensure that he/she goes to the health room at the prescribed time. Medication can only be given one-half hour before or one-half hour after the prescribed time.
  • For as needed medication, parents should inform the health room if the medication was given at home before school hours. This will prevent students from receiving medication too close to an earlier dose.
  • Parent or guardian must collect any unused portion of medication within one week after expiration of the effective date on the order form. Unclaimed medication within that period will be discarded.
  • Medication that has not been picked up by the closing bell on the last day of the school year will be discarded.
