Important Information about the 2021-2022 School Year

FCPS and Orange Hunt are excited to welcome students and staff back in-person 5 days a week for the 2021-2022 school year.

Safety Mitigation

FCPS and OHES are continuing to use the following layered prevention strategies to keep schools safe places for all students to learn: masks, vaccination, screening for sickness, cleaning and disinfecting, hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette, ventilation and contact tracing and quarantining. The most up to date information from FCPS about the Return to School can be found here:including detailed answers to many FAQs.

For the 2021-22 school year, FCPS will not be using county metrics or transmission rates to adjust operating status. All decisions regarding closure of schools will be made at the direction of the county and state health officials and/or an Executive Order.

FCPS has plans in place to ensure continuity of learning in the event health authorities require a temporary closure to protect the health of students, staff, and the community. To access the Protocols for Potential Temporary COVID-19 Closure click here.

FCPS shared information that all staff and students will wear masks at all times indoors and on school buses in the fall. Masks will not be required when eating or when outside during recess, PE, or other activities. Universal masking is a critical safety mitigation factor in ensuring all students can return to our buildings, especially when social distancing is not possible and not all our students are eligible for vaccinations.

Class Assignments -Will be set this afternoon!

Class assignments will be sent via email the afternoon of August 18, 2021.

Teachers will be scheduling 10-minute individual meetings to get to know each child and their family during the first weeks of school. Links to sign up for these meetings will be included in your welcome email.

Class assignments have been intentionally developed to consider the academic and social needs of all students. Our team of dedicated teachers and staff members are excited to welcome and meet the Orange Hunt students and families. Orange Hunt Elementary is a dedicated Professional Learning Community, teachers at every grade level collaborate interdependently throughout the school year to support the academic achievement of all students.  All are highly qualified and were selected as members of this staff because they meet the high standards and expectations we have in our community.  We appreciate your support of all of our talented teachers!

Open House

We will host our in-person Open House (meet the teacher) on Thursday, August 19th and Friday, August 20th. We know that our kindergarteners and many of our first graders have not had the opportunity to visit our building. Therefore, we wanted to host them at their own time on Thursday, Aug. 19th.  Open house is for a brief visit to the classroom, a chance to drop off supplies, and, of course,  a chance for students to introduce themselves to their teachers. On Friday the 20th we will then welcome students in grades 2-6. We have divided the time to allow less crowds and more opportunities to visit our school safely.

August 19, 2021 Kindergarten and 1st grade students from 2:30pm to 3:30 pm.

August 20, 2021 students in grades 2-6. 9:00-9:45am last names beginning with A-L.

August 20, 2021 students grades 2-6. 9:45- 10:30am last names beginning with M-Z.

Kiss&Ride- There will be a table in the main lobby during open house if you need a number for Kiss&Ride.  If you are only going to use as an exception you do not need a number.  The numbers are for families that will use it on a regular basis.

Learn About What Parents Can Do Now to Get Ready for Schoology

We are excited to share that students, families, and teachers throughout FCPS and in our school community will use Schoology (pronounced /SKOO-luh-jee/) as our learning management system beginning Summer/Fall 2021.

Here is what you need to know now:

  • We will not use Blackboard 24-7 Learning or Blackboard Collaborate Ultra (BBCU)
  • Schoology has a connected web conferencing tool, Zoom
  • Schoology works with Google Drive

You need a SIS/ParentVUE account to login to Schoology: http://bit.ly/FCPSSIS

    • If you are a family new to Orange Hunt will receive activation information between August 11th and August 13th.
  • Parent accounts will be available mid-August and more information about how to login to parent accounts will be shared with you closer to the start of the school year
  • Students can log in using their FCPS student ID and password. Look for the FCPS logo to make sure you are on the correct login page
    • Students new to FCPS will receive this information at the beginning of the year
    • Students will not see any classes until the grading period starts
  • As a parent or guardian, you will be able to use Schoology to view:
    • Your child’s class
    • Your child’s assignments and participation
    • Your child’s calendar
    • Teacher comments, scores, and feedback

We look forward to using Schoology along with your SIS/ParentVue account to strengthen our partnerships throughout the school year. In the next few weeks we will share how to login to Schoology. In the meantime, you are welcome to learn more about this learning management system by visiting: https://www.fcps.edu/schoology
