Glasgow Community Gazette - August 15

Powell

Glasgow Community:

Greetings! We are excited for Glasgow’s Open House this Thursday, August 19, from 3:00-6:00 PM. If you haven’t already please RSVP before the event using this link Glasgow Fall Open House RSVP Form

Staff is back and hard at work preparing to welcome students to Glasgow on Monday, 8/23 for the start of the 2021-22 school year. We welcomed our new teachers to the building this past Thursday, and we gathered as an entire staff on Friday to kickoff Staff Return Week! The energy in the building was palpable, and we can’t wait for students return!

We also had great time connecting with students, parents, and families throughout our community during “Popsicles with the Principals” last week. Being able to meet, and learn about, students and their families is something that I value deeply.

Glasgow is a devoted school community where we are committed to providing quality classroom instruction for all students. We want our school to be inclusive for our students and families. In addition, Glasgow focuses on the academic, social and emotional development of our students during Panther Time. Lessons focus on empathy, creativity, appreciation, kindness, coping skills, organization, study skills, goal setting and college exploration. We will be highlighting Panther Time lessons throughout the year via the Gazette.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions. The images below are from our Popsicles with the Principals this past week. It’s been a treat doing Home Visits every week and having our team in the community this summer! If you want me to visit your family, please email me.

Humbly,

Victor L. Powell,  Principal

Glasgow Fall Open House - August 19, 2021; 3:00 to 6:00pm. Our Fall Open House serves as a kick-off to a new school year! Students are invited to come to Glasgow to walk our campus and find their classrooms. Class schedules will go live in SIS ParentVUE and StudentVUE for all FCPS secondary students at 6:00am on August 19th. To maintain safe building capacity, we are asking only one family member to join each student for this event. We will also have a limited number of school supplies available for students on a first-come, first-serve basis. Tuesday, August 17, from 6 - 7 p.m. (In Spanish) The superintendent, joined by two school principals, will answer questions about returning to five full days of in-person learning and measures to help keep everyone safe for a strong return to school. Glasgow Back to School Night - September 1, 2021; 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Back to School Night is an opportunity for parents and guardians to connect with all of their student’s teachers, counselors, and administrators. This year, in person! Glasgow Panthers and their families will rotate through students’ schedules to meet each of their teachers in their classrooms. In case you’re not able to attend, we will also post videos that introduce families to their child’s teachers and the classes they teach to our school website. More details to come!

Parent Consent Needed: Digital Resources, YouTube: YouTube provides access to high quality educational videos that support FCPS instructional programs. In order to strengthen our YouTube controls and limit access to non-educational content, we are offering the ability for students to log onto YouTube with their FCPS Google account. With this additional layer of protection, FCPS will be able to implement stricter controls on videos available for student use in educational settings.

Starting September 1, 2021, parental consent will be required for students to access YouTube. Students with parental consent will experience strict filtering of YouTube videos to protect them from inappropriate content when logged in to their FCPS Google Account.

With this parent consent, students will be able to log on to YouTube and access educational videos approved by FCPS staff.

Without parental consent, students will not be able to access YouTube when signed in to Chrome or Edge with their FCPS Google account. In addition, students without parental consent will not be able to access videos approved by FCPS staff, unless those videos are embedded by a teacher into a Google Workspace product (such as a Google Slides presentation or Google Site). For more detailed information, review the FCPS Guide to Student YouTube Access.

ParentVUE - Sign up for ParentVUE if you have not already done so. ParentVUE allows you to access your child’s grades, schedule, attendance, and bus information. Sign up here. FCPS will be sending home activation letters home this week. For questions related to ParentVUE, please contact Dana Rivas, registrar, at dhrivas@fcps.edu

Weekly Glasgow Gazette (News You Choose) - Sign up for our weekly Glasgow Gazette. Each week starting in August, Victor Powell, school principal, will send out important updates about Glasgow happenings, FCPS health conditions, school events, programs, and opportunities for students and families.
