Amazingly, the start of a new school year is just a few weeks away, with the first day of school being Monday, August 23. It is my pleasure to officially welcome you and your children “back to school.” I hope that everyone in the West Springfield community is enjoying the summer season. While the students have been away, the school has been a busy place. Classrooms and hallways are polished and gleaming, new supplies are arriving, and the teachers and staff have been preparing for another fantastic year.
Class placements will be communicated directly from the teacher on Wednesday morning. If you don't hear from your teacher by Wednesday afternoon, please contact the office.

Need for Parent Volunteers
We are looking to see if we can get enough routine parent volunteers (Monday-Friday) to assist with our lunch hour in order to manage some social distancing during our lunch period. Schoology
We are excited for Schoology, FCPS' new learning management system. Schoology (pronounced /SKOO-luh-jee/) is a learning space that enhances communication, collaboration, and personalized learning for students, teachers, and families. We are excited to work with you this fall as we use this system to support our students!
Here is what you need to know now:
- As a parent or guardian, you will be able to use Schoology to view:
- Your child’s class and teacher newsletters
- Your child’s assignments
- Your child’s calendar
- Progress reports
- You need a SIS/ParentVUE account to login to Schoology: http://bit.ly/FCPSSIS

If you are a family new to West Springfield ES, you will receive activation information in the mail between August 11th and August 13th.
- Parent accounts will be available in mid-August
- Information about how to login to parent accounts will be shared with you closer to the start of the school year
- Students already have a Schoology account created
- Students will not see any classes until the school year starts
- Students use their FCPS student ID and password to login to Schoology: https://lms.fcps.edu. Look for the FCPS logo to make sure you are on the correct login page.
- We will no longer use Blackboard 24-7 Learning or Blackboard Collaborate Ultra (BBCU)
- Schoology has a connected web conferencing tool, Zoom, and integrates with the Google suite of tools students are already know.
We look forward to using Schoology along with your SIS/ParentVue account to strengthen our partnerships throughout the school year. In the next few weeks we will share how to login to Schoology. Each year the office of Transportation Services reviews the current year Bell Schedule and makes minor adjustments as necessary to improve on-time arrivals.
The 2021-22 Bell Schedule for West Springfield ES is 8:50 a.m. - 3:35 p.m.
AM Preschool 9:05 a.m. - 12:25 p.m.
PM Preschool 12:30 - 3:50 p.m.
