Bus Ridership Survey

Parents of all eligible bus riders will receive an email from the Office of Transportation Service (OTS) containing a student ridership survey. You will need your student's ID to complete the survey.  If you have multiple children in FCPS, please complete the survey for each child.  If you do not know your student's ID, don't hesitate to contact Ms. Sujo, our Student Information Assistant, at 703-506-7800.  Parents should respond to the survey by August 4, 2021.

Mask Guidance

Masks are an essential tool in preventing the spread of COVID-19 and protecting those unable to be vaccinated. To ensure a safe start to the school year, masks will be required for everyone, regardless of vaccination status, inside FCPS school buildings.

Wearing a mask protects us all:

  • Children under 12 and the immunocompromised are not able to be vaccinated at this time.
  • By wearing a mask, we all help create a safe environment for those who are unable to be vaccinated.
  • When recommended social distancing is a challenge, universal masking is an approved substitute - meaning more students can engage in learning in classrooms and other spaces within the school building.
  • Reducing the spread of COVID-19 also reduces student absences and missed extracurricular activities and athletic events.
  • Buses: The CDC federal order requiring masks be worn on public transportation remains in effect, and applies to buses and school transportation operated by Virginia public schools.

Outdoors: Masks are not required when outside, including athletic activities.

Mealtimes: Masks may be removed while eating but should be reapplied as soon as you are finished with your meal.

School Supply Lists

SS

SCHOOL SUPPLY LISTS ARE IN! School supply lists for next year for each grade have been updated. Check them out here. Please note: we are not doing pre-ordered school supplies via Sprout this year.

PTA Updates

It's hard to believe the beginning of school will be here before you know it. Your PTA Board already is hard at work and we've already had our first planning meeting for the school year. Couple of announcements:

PTA EVENTS REIMAGINED

We are making adjustments to follow covid-19 guidelines and safety measures. With that there will be a few changes to our fall events. Read below for details:

* Back to School Picnic - Instead of having a Back to School BBQ, we are going to have a Back to School Picnic. We're hoping to bring a combination of either box lunch pre-orders and possibly food trucks to this fun community event where everyone can gather and catch up. You can still bring your own food/snacks/blankets and hang out on the black top.

PTA POSITIONS TO EXPLORE

We've have some great people step up to volunteer for a couple of positions so let's keep the momentum going. The top positions we need are:

1) Teacher Appreciation Chair/Co-Chairs - this is a great position to do with someone. If you are creative and can think of ways to show appreciation (we also have lots of ideas and resources), this position is for you. Time commitment is an effort every few months at key celebrations during the year and during the 1st week of May for Teacher Appreciation Week.

2) Harvest Fun Movie Night Chair/Co-Chairs - With HFN changed, we're looking for someone to help coordinate the logistics of a Halloween Movie Night and a few activities (guess the # of candy in a jar, etc.).

There are additional positions that need to be filled as well (International Parade Chair, Field Day Sponsorship Chair, Field Day Logistics, Garden/Landscape Chair, etc.). Contact PTA President, Sahar Javadi, to talk about what's involved at president@freedomhillpta.org

KINDERGARTEN PLAYDATE - AUG. 10th at 6pm

We had a great Kindergarten playdate July 17th and had about 20 families of incoming kindergarteners come join us on the playground. It was wonderful to meet everyone. We'll do this again on August 10th at 6pm to meet on the playground for a cool and icy treat. We look forward to seeing you then!
