DRES Open House/Tours

All families are welcome to tour the building on Friday, August 13 from 3-5 pm.  Feel free to join a guided tour (3:00, 3:45 and 4:30) led by a member of our administrative or counseling team.  You can also walk the building self-guided.  Our teachers will not be available during the tours in order to prepare for the upcoming school year.

Welcome Walk

We will welcome students and families back by making a brief visit to your home on Thursday, August 19 between 12-4 pm.  What will this look like?  Your child will be welcomed with a short visit at your front door or on your front lawn by their new teacher! We want a chance to say hello and answer any questions you may have.

Opting out:  If you will be away or prefer not to participate please complete this form (student’s name, grade and phone number) by Monday, August 16.

SY21-22 Bus Ridership Intent Survey

If your student is eligible to ride a bus, please make sure to check your email from the Transportation Office (sent Friday, July 30) and complete the Ridership Intent Survey at your earliest convenience.

Because of a serious shortage of school bus drivers, it is important that FCPS Office of Transportation Services plans the most efficient possible routes for the coming school year.

Eligible riders needing transportation may review student route assignment by accessing ParentVue any time after August 9th, or by contacting your transportation office. Additions and adjustments will be made weekly. All students eligible for transportation services will be provided transportation, even those whose parents did not complete this survey. This information is important for planning purposes only.

Transportation Updates

Parents/guardians should review their ParentVue account in Student Information System (SIS) for updated bus route assignment information after August 10, 2021.

Katherine Johnson Story Walk

Fairfax City’s Office of Economic Development in partnership with the City of Fairfax Schools is excited to announce the Katherine Johnson Middle School StoryWalk®  in support of the 2022 school year at the newly named middle school.

During the month of August (8/1-8/31), students and families are invited to take a walk through Fairfax City as they read pages from a book displayed in business storefront windows.  The Katherine Johnson StoryWalk®  will feature two different books for students to read along the way, one in Old Town Fairfax City and the other in Fair City Mall. Each book will allow for students to learn more about Katherine Johnson while engaging with the City’s business community.

To start the walk, students and families can pick up an official map at the City of Fairfax Regional Library at 10360 North Street, participating businesses, download a StoryWalk®  map or Google form for each book below.  With the map in hand, follow the route to read the book.  Each business will have a new set of pages to read.  Enjoy the StoryWalk®  at your own pace but make sure to follow the path in the correct order.  Fill in the blanks with the missing words or look for the answer on the page.

Completed maps should be emailed to EconomicDevelopment@fairfaxva.gov no later than Sunday, September 5.  The first 100 completed maps received for each story will receive a copy of the book and be entered into a raffle drawing to win one of six gift cards to a Fairfax City business of choice.
