Glasgow Community Gazette - July 30

Powell

Glasgow Community:

As we transition into August, I hope that everyone is well and enjoying this time with family and friends. My son is starting kindergarten, so we are also in the school preparation phase at our house.

This past week ended the IMAGINE/Young Scholars & VIP programs for students. Walking around the building and seeing our students was a joy! We are so thankful for Mrs. Roddey, Mrs. Hedenberg, and Mr. Williams for their summer leadership for our students and staff!

Also, if we are going to continue to improve as a school, your support and involvement is essential. Here are just a few examples of how to get involved today!

Lastly, next week our Glasgow Leadership Team will be attending the 2021 Annual Leadership Kickoff for FCPS. During this time our team will be involved in professional development and team-building that is aligned to FCPS and Glasgow MS goals and objectives. We are looking forward to welcoming our students back to school for 5 days and having “One Voice” advocating for the best education possible for all our students.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions.

Humbly,

Victor L. Powell,  Principal

Important Information

Bus Ridership Survey - Check your email! On July 29, 2021, the Office of Transportation Services (OTS) will conduct a student ridership survey for all eligible riders. It is important that parents respond to the survey by August 4, 2021, and submit a separate survey for each of their children enrolled in FCPS.

During the school year, changes to the intent form can be made with your school's Student Information Assistant if the need for transportation changes or the survey is not returned by August 4, 2021. It may take up to five days to update transportation schedules.

This is a reminder that all students, drivers, and attendants must wear face coverings when boarding or riding on a school bus. Parents/guardians should review their Parent Vue account for updated bus route assignment information after August 10, 2021.  If you have any questions, please contact your school's transportation office.

Administrators & Counselors in the Community - Join us for our upcoming Popsicles with the Principals! We are excited to welcome our Panthers to these community locations for popsicles and fun! This is a time to meet and greet. Friday, August 6th: 6-8th Grade families are welcome to join us from 1:00-2:00PM in any these 4 locations in our attendance zone.

All students will be issued a laptop again for this coming school year.

Student Schedules - Student schedules will go live in SIS ParentVUE and StudentVUE for all FCPS secondary students at 6:00am on August 19th. To view your child’s class schedule when it becomes available, sign up for ParentVUE. We will not be providing printed schedules at our open house.  Sign up here. For questions, contact Cindy Ramos at cpramos@fcps.edu.

Required Forms - All students are required to have Emergency Contact Information and Health Information updated each fall. Login to ParentVUE to update Emergency Contact Information. Click here for instructions

Helpful Links: Here Comes the Bus is an app that allows you to track the location of your child’s school bus. MySchoolBucks allows you to add funds to your child’s account for meals, and student fees.

Glasgow Fall Open House - August 19, 2021; 3:00 to 6:00pm. Our Fall Open House serves as a kick-off to a new school year! Students are invited to come to Glasgow to walk our campus and find their classrooms. Class schedules will go live in SIS ParentVUE and StudentVUE for all FCPS secondary students at 6:00am on August 19th. To maintain safe building capacity, we are asking only one family member to join each student for this event. While most teachers will not be present at this event, representatives from our faculty will be available with maps to assist new Panthers navigate Glasgow. We will also have a limited number of school supplies available for students on a first-come, first-serve basis.

  2. After the event, please share feedback here: Glasgow Fall Open House - Feedback Form

Glasgow Back to School Night - September 1, 2021; 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Back to School Night is an opportunity for parents and guardians to connect with all of their student’s teachers, counselors, and administrators. This year, in person! Glasgow Panthers and their families will rotate through students’ schedules to meet each of their teachers in their classrooms. In case you’re not able to attend, we will also post videos that introduce families to their child’s teachers and the classes they teach to our school website. More details to come!

ParentVUE - Sign up for ParentVUE if you have not already done so. ParentVUE allows you to access your child’s grades, schedule, attendance, and bus information. Sign up here

Schoology - FCPS is moving to Schoology (/SKOO-luh-jee/) as the Learning Management System, and away from Blackboard/Google Classroom. Our staff has already started their Schoology training as part of our Schoology transition and rollout for the upcoming school year and beyond. Be on the lookout for information coming soon about student and parent Schoology accounts and access.

Returning Strong - As we prepare to return strong with five days of in-person learning this fall, it is important that we all understand how we can provide a safe and healthy learning environment for all students.

There are three things you can all do to help ensure we return strong in the fall:

  1. Mask Up To ensure our schools stay open and safe this school year, FCPS will start the school year with universal masking. Masks will be worn at all times by both staff and students indoors and on school buses, but are not required when eating or when outside during recess, PE, or other activities. Universal masking is a critical factor in ensuring all students can return to our buildings, especially when social distancing is not possible and not all our students are eligible yet for vaccinations. We will be regularly reviewing our masking practices in line with updates to national, state and local health recommendations. Find out why we are starting the school year with universal masking.
  2. Vax Up The most effective tool for preventing the spread of COVID-19 is widespread vaccination. If you and your child are eligible for vaccination and have not yet had your shot, visit one of our school vaccination clinics or make an appointment to be vaccinated as soon as possible.

Stay Connected Staying connected is more important than ever right now. Make sure you are signed up to receive FCPS This Week and your school newsletter through News You Choose. This is how we will be sharing all the need-to-know Return to School information.
