Back to School Night Follow Up

Message from the Principal

Dear Mantua Parents and Staff,

I want to thank you for your understanding as we adjusted our Back to School Night date.  This decision was necessary because the date we selected had a significant impact on our colleagues and families observing Yom Kippur.  Please know that our intent in planning was to be mindful of the days of religious and cultural observance, yet we failed to recognize a clear conflict with the beginning of Yom Kippur as sundown on the day prior.

As you know, once we understood the impact it had on our community, we sent a correction communication with our new BTSN date on September 29th from 6:30 to 8:30 PM.

I appreciate the community members that reached out to me directly to let me know of this concern and I thank you for the grace and guidance offered.  As someone that greatly values an inclusive school and community, I will take this experience as an impetus to learn more, so that it is not a specified date on a calendar that triggers the importance, but instead a true understanding of the diverse religious and cultural experiences shared within our community.

I look forward to meeting you in the upcoming weeks!

Take care,

Linda
