Culmination of Another Outstanding Season

From the Principal

Family,

As I drove up to school on Saturday for our Gilr's Soocer Region Finals game, I noticed a huge charter bus leaving the school and the parking lot packed.  It was only later that I found out that these visitors were coming to catch the shuttle bus down to Sandy Run to watch a number of our Crew athletes compete!  Here is how the day panned out for our Crew Team:

Women’s Novice 4: Didn’t make finals at States but posted their best overall time for the season and taking 3rd in their heat. Consistent improvement and hard work helped them continue to get better.  We are proud of this group of awesome competitors!

Men’s Novice 8: Ranked 9th going into the State Championship, and the boys pulled off a surprise upset of McLean to take a spot in the Finals. In the Final the field was even across the course until the 500m left mark where they battled with Fairfax HS to see who took 3rd. In the end they got 4th place in the state.  Again, we are so proud of these young men who came out to compete and gave it their all!

Women’s First Varsity 4: One of the few V4 crews on the water that had novices (two freshman) in their boat; the girls made it to Finals and took 5th overall with one of their best races to date. Congratulations to this team and for all of their hard work!

Men’s First Varsity 4: Over the course of the season the Men’s 4 was ranked 1st for the majority of their races. Having missed 3 races they were bumped down to 2nd for States. The guys fought through a rough start in their heat to take first and secure their spot in the final next to their chief competition in Oakton HS. In the final Oakton had a clear lead but the boys battled with a massive sprint that almost brought them to gold. They finished 0:00:9 seconds behind Oakton to take the silver medal at states.

All said and done, for such a small team this year, the athletes really performed above and beyond. Each of these athletes chose to dig deep and show the other schools what we can do.  Please join me in congratulating our Crew Team and what has been a very exciting season!  #OneStallion
