Principals' Message

Good morning Freedom Hill families,

We hope all is well as we celebrate the beginning of summer. This has been, without a doubt, the most challenging year that our school community has experienced. We are so proud of the resilience of our students, their families, our PTA, and our staff this year. There are simply too many examples to list here of actions taken by our community to ensure our students would succeed this year.  Suffice to say, at every twist and turn, our community came together to support one another.

On Thursday, we celebrated the promotion of our dear 6th grade class. They are now middle schoolers! Some of their reflections on their time at Freedom Hill are showcased above. Their messages speak to enduring relationships, a love of learning, our diversity, and wonderful teachers. This is the bedrock of Freedom Hill, and we are excited for August when we will continue this work! Best of luck to our new 7th graders - we will miss them.

Until then, Freedom Hill will be a busy place. This summer, we will be welcoming students from over 15 schools for Extended School Year, hosting our own small summer school program, and getting our classrooms ready for the 2021-22 school year. Our office will be open daily from 9 - 1:00. Stop in and see us!

Finally - yearbooks will be delivered in the next few weeks. We will reach out when they are ready for pickup. A small supply is available for those who have not yet ordered.

Wishing you and your family a restful, happy summer.

Nick & Eric

FH Digital Summer Resources

This year students and staff utilized Imagine Learning, Pioneer Valley, ST Math, and other digital resources. All current students will continue to have access to programs for most of the summer. Moving forward, the County has renewed our contracts for next school year.

Our FHES Digital Learning Tools webpage, https://freedomhilles.fcps.edu/digital-learning-tools, provides quick access for students.

Score Reports Arriving with Report Cards

Along with report cards, your child may receive three additional score reports. These score reports reflect assessments that were given at different times and different grade levels.

Virginia Kindergarten Readiness Program(VKRP)- The VKRP was given in the Spring and only to Kindergarteners. Parent will see a score report that reflects achievement in three areas: math, reading, and behavior.

iReady (Universal Screener)- The Iready assessment was used in grades K-6 and assesses both reading and math (Only reading for Kindergarteners). Not all students were required to take this assessment and may not be receiving score reports.

DRA2 Progress Monitoring- The DRA2 Progress monitoring assessment assesses students in the area of Reading. Not all students were required to take this assessment and may not be receiving score reports.

If you have any questions about your score reports please contact Eric Kopacz epkopacz@fcps.edu or Tim Scesney Tscesney@fcps.edu.

Updates from the PTA

PTA CHAIR POSITIONS OPEN

We'd love to get our PTA back up to full swing but need YOUR help with volunteers. We are looking for people to help with the events: Back to School type event, Teacher Appreciation Chairs, International Celebration, Community Bingo Night, Science Fair, Enrichment Activities, Fundraiser type of events (like Readathon or 5K type of events), Field Day and more. COVID-19 has made us rethink so many aspects of life so with that in mind, just because something has been done a certain way before - doesn't mean it has to be done the same way again. Contact us to talk through the planning process and think through ideas at our info email.
