Message from Dr. Smith

Hello Bruin Families,

We did it! We made it through the 2020-21 school year. The year was full of uncertainty, but we ended on a high note. It was such a joy to see so many students in person over the last few weeks.

We also want to say one more congratulations to the Class of 2021!  Graduation was a success at Jiffy Lube Live and the All Night Grad Party organized by the Lake Braddock PTSA had over 460 Seniors celebrating together.  Thank you to all the parents, teachers and staff who helped our Seniors reach this milestone in their lives.  We wish them all the best in their future endeavors and we can't wait to see them back on campus as alumni.

We hope you and your family are able to rest, relax, and recharge over the summer and look forward to a strong start in the fall. We are excited to have students back in the building five days a week. Until then, thank you for sharing your children with us.

United as Bruins,

Daniel W. Smith, Ed.D.

2021 Cappies National Capital Area Gala Watch Party, Sunday, June 13

Join in the celebration at Langley High School on Sunday, June 13, to celebrate the 22nd annual Cappies season where theatre students and audiences from all over the DMV area will watch the 2021 Cappies National Capital Area (NCA) Virtual Gala. Doors will open at 7 p.m., and the show will start at 7:30 p.m.

Lake Braddock 2021 Graduate, Ellen Keil, is repesenting the LB Critics Team this year.

For those not able to attend this event, the Virtual Gala will be available for viewing on the Cappies NCA YouTube Channel or Fairfax County Public Schools' Red Apple 21 beginning on June 14, 2021.

Second COVID-19 Vaccine

Students who participated in the FCPS COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics for their first Pfizer dose will need a second Pfizer dose to be fully vaccinated.  The earliest a student can get the second dose is 21 days from the date the first dose was received.

FCPS will NOT be providing the second COVID-19 vaccine, but the Fairfax County Health Department has provided instructions on the How To Get Your Child’s Second COVID-19 Vaccine flyer.

  • Vaccine card:  Students will need to bring this vaccination card to the second appointment.
  • Schedule the second COVID-19 vaccine using VAMS
  • Other community vaccine providers:  The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is widely available throughout our community, including private healthcare providers, grocery stores, pharmacies, urgent cares, and Inova.

If parents have questions or need assistance, direct them to Fairfax County Health Department’s Vaccine Call Center at 703-324-7404.

Parent Help Desk Summer Hours

The Parent Technology Help Desk will continue to support parents and students through the summer months.

Beginning on Monday, June 14, we are moving the service to our in-house Service Desk. The phone number for parents will stay the same -  833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS) - and the reduced hours for summer are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday in June, July and early August. Outside of those hours, parents can also visit the Parent and Student IT Support Portal to find self-help resources or submit a tech support request ticket. Please note the reduced summer hours when you promote the Parent Tech Help Desk to your communities.

FCPS Honors Recognizes 2021 Outstanding Employees

Our very own principal, Dr. Smith, was recognized at the Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)  Honors Gala this week as Region IV Principal of the Year. FCPS recognized exceptional employees from across the division at the FCPS Honors event held Wednesday, June 9. Sponsored by the Foundation for FCPS, the 2021 celebration was hosted outdoors at Jiffy Lube Live for the first time.

Annually, more than 700 employees in both instructional and operational roles are recognized through the Outstanding Employee Awards Program. This year, 74 finalists representing twelve categories were recognized in the special award ceremony.

Information on this year's award winners is available online.

FCPS Transitions to Schoology Learning Management System on July 1

Fairfax County Public Schools’ contract with Blackboard ends on June 30. The new learning management system is Schoology (pronounced /SKOO-luh-jee/). Schoology is a learning space that enhances communication, collaboration, and personalized learning for students, teachers, and families. Schoology will be used division-wide starting in July.

Schoology was chosen to:

  • Support and implement instructional practices aligned to our learning model.
  • Help students reach the Portrait of a Graduate goals.
  • Provide all students with equitable access to meaningful learning experiences.
  • Offer anytime access to their virtual learning space.

Students will have a Schoology account by June 18.

  • Students use their FCPS student ID and password to login to Schoology.
  • Students will not see any classes until the grading period starts.

As a parent or guardian, you will be able to use Schoology to view:

  • Your child’s class.
  • Your child’s assignments and participation.
  • Your child’s calendar.
  • Teacher comments, scores, and feedback.

Parent accounts will be available in mid-August. To access Schoology, parents will need to have an active SIS/ParentVUE account.

More information about Schoology is available online

Fall 2021

The first day of school in the fall will be Monday, August 23. We will be back to a full five-day schedule. School hours will be 8:00 am to 2:45 pm. Details about the start of school, including the purple and gold calendar, class schedule, laptop pickup, etc., will be emailed in mid-August.
