Farewelling Our Staff

As we move toward the end of the school year, there are always transitions for some of our staff members. We want to let our Villa community know who will be moving on to new adventures and to pass along their messages to you!

WILMOT

1. Denise Wilmot

It was a pleasure joining the Villa team.  Even though my time here was short, I will remember it always. I have worked with elementary school students my entire 13 years as an educator, I am excited to start a new journey. I will be moving up to Mclean Highschool to work with teenagers.  Let the adventure begin!

I have worked as the part-time school counselor at Fairfax Villa Elementary School for the last two years and I am sad to be leaving the students I have grown to love so much. Next year I will be working at Mason Crest Elementary School in Annandale and will also be devoting time to my private practice in Fairfax. The Villa community is a special one and I will always remember my time here fondly.

I have really enjoyed my four years as a member of the Villa community: Small school, Big Heart. I love the diversity and cultural exchanges I’ve been able to share with my students and their families. I will be deciding what’s next soon, but I’m looking forward to fulfilling some long planned dreams and enjoying my new granddaughter as she grows.

I have enjoyed being a part of the Villa community for the past two years. Next year, I will be teaching 5th grade in Loudoun County. I will miss all of my students and families. Thank you to the Villa community for always being so welcoming and friendly.

I am so fortunate to have been able to begin my teaching career here at Fairfax Villa. I have learned so much from my colleagues while working as a third-grade teacher at the Villa for the past four years. Next year I will be teaching second grade at Wolftrap Elementary School. I have decided to continue my teaching career at a school closer to home. I have enjoyed working with the amazing students and their families and will miss the whole Villa community!

I am leaving Fairfax Villa for a new position as the school librarian at Crestwood Elementary in Springfield, Va.  I have enjoyed being a member of the Villa staff as an instructional assistant for the past ten years.  I recall that when I  joined the Villa staff in 2011, the new addition, which now houses kindergarten and first grade, had not been built.  Even though the school addition brought an increase in enrollment, the Villa maintained its small school atmosphere.  I will miss the Villa students and staff and am grateful for having had the opportunity to be a part of the Villa community.

After 6 years of working at the Villa, I will be saying my final farewell. My husband has started a new job working for Penn Medicine and my family will be moving to Philadelphia. I was born and raised in Pennsylvania and we are very excited to move closer to family. Fairfax Villa was the home to my first teaching job and many important milestones in my life. I will forever be grateful for the kindness my colleagues, students and families have shown me over the years.

I have been at the Villa as a teacher for the past 8 years, in addition to being a student here in the 90s! I will miss all of the wonderful staff, students, and families that have made this school “home”. Next year, I will be teaching 5th grade in Loudoun County, but will still be around the neighborhood often as my dad still lives here. I hope to stay in touch!

After calling Fairfax Villa my home for 11 years, the decision to leave was not an easy one. I have consistently felt the warmth of this community wholeheartedly and can’t possibly express my gratitude and appreciation for making my time in Virginia most memorable. I will remember the positive vibes and incredible sense of family within the halls of this small school. My most joyful memories include the excitement of field days and seeing students push themselves to meet their fitness goals and overcome obstacles.

I am retiring after 19 years with FCPS. I was part of the Villa family for just this year. Previously, I taught at Fairfax HS, Franklin MS, and Cardinal Forest ES. I enjoyed being a virtual Villa family member and will treasure the virtual friendships that I made. The students, families, staff, and administration are the best!  Future plans: start an education consulting LLC, curriculum development, professional development, special education advocacy. I will also adjunct at the post-secondary levels and research/publish. In my spare time, I plan to  travel the world!

I came to Fairfax Villa 23 years ago as a substitute teacher. From the first day I walked into the office, I could tell this school was special and I was thrilled when I was offered a position as a long-term sub for fifth grade. I have been here ever since!  My first impression of this school was right. This school is special. It is a place where everyone takes care of and looks out for each other. “We are family” here and I am grateful that I have been able to be a small part of it.  Although I am looking forward to traveling with my husband and spending lots of time with my 3 (so far!) grandchildren, I will miss this little school with a big heart.

We will miss all of our staff who are leaving, thank them for the inspiring and incredible job they did, and wish each of them all the best. We especially thank our retiring teachers for their many years of dedication. You will always be remembered and cherished.
