Hello students, parents, and family members,

As we are writing this final message and reflecting upon this year of online learning, we wanted to thank each one of you for everything you have done - not just supporting your own learning but also the learning of your other community members.  We cannot tell you enough how delighted we are of your accomplishments. It is an honor to work for you and be a member of a great school that continually has students positively affect one another, even when some of our students have not physically been in our school building.  This summer, please take the time to relax, enjoy life, and be with your friends and families. As we told our 6th graders at the promotion ceremony yesterday, “So keep on laughing, keep working hard, and work for something you believe in, something that truly inspires you.”

If you’d like to view a message from some of our staff members to our students, click here.

Wishing you all the very best,

Dave Gerstner, Principal

1.Virtual Student Drive Through

On Friday, June 11, from 2:30-2:50pm, we want to say goodbye to our online students with an in-person activity.  During this 20 minute window, we ask our parents of virtual students only to drive them  through the Fairfax Villa kiss-n-ride parking lot where our teachers will be waiting to wave goodbye and wish them a safe and wonderful summer of fun!  Please take advantage of this great opportunity. We hope to see all of our virtual families on that day.

2.End of Year Assessment Reporting for Families

If your child took the SOLs this year, the score should be in your Parent Vue by late July. If you do not yet have a ParentVue account, please email Ms. Schmidt at bdschmidt@fcps.edu.

If your child took the Virginia Remote Student Progress Test in place of SOLs, those scores will be mailed to you before the start of the new school year.

3.Laptop Return Information

At the end of the school year, Fairfax Villa  will be collecting the laptops and power cords that were given to your child to use at home and school  this school year. (If you were given a laptop bag, please plan to return that also.) Students who are returning to Fairfax Villa in the fall will be issued another laptop at that time. Students going to middle school will be issued a laptop by that school later.

  • Students who are enrolled in the SOAR, Bridge to 1, and Young Scholars  summer school programs at FVES may keep their FCPS laptops for those programs. They will be collected on the last day of the program.
  • Students who are in school on the last day of school (Friday, June 11th) will turn in their laptops and power cords that day. A staff member will come to the classroom to get them. If you have lost the power cord and need to replace it, please send a check for $23 made out to Fairfax Villa Elementary. You may also send the exact amount in cash. We will not be able to make change for you.
  • If your child is virtual or a two-day student who is not in school on Friday, June 11th, parents will need to return the laptop, power cord, and bag (if you have one) to the school  by doing the following.
    • Come to Fairfax Villa at any of these days/times:
      • Monday, June 14th from 7:30am - 9:30am
      • Monday, June 14th from 2:00pm - 4:00pm.
      • Tuesday, June 15th from 11:00am - 1:00pm
      • Tuesday, June 15th from 4:00pm - 6:00pm.
    • Look for the tent in the front of the school and pull your car up to that point.
    • Bring the laptop, charger, and bag to the table.
    •  Please have all the equipment out of the bag. Leave the name tags on the laptop or bag.
    • We will check the barcode to make sure that the laptop matches the one that was checked out to your child.
    • If you have lost the power cord and need to replace it, please bring a check for $23 made out to Fairfax Villa Elementary. You may also bring the exact amount in cash. We will not be able to make change for you.

Thank you for returning your child’s laptop on time so that we are able to start getting them ready for the next school year.

4.FCPS Transitions to Schoology Learning Management System on July 1

Fairfax County Public Schools’ contract with Blackboard ends on June 30. The new learning management system is Schoology (pronounced /SKOO-luh-jee/). Schoology is a learning space that enhances communication, collaboration, and personalized learning for students, teachers, and families. Schoology will be used division-wide starting in July.

Schoology was chosen to:

  • Support and implement instructional practices aligned to our learning model.
  • Help students reach the Portrait of a Graduate goals.
  • Provide all students with equitable access to meaningful learning experiences.
  • Offer anytime access to their virtual learning space.

Students will have a Schoology account by June 18.

  • Students use their FCPS student ID and password to login to Schoology.
  • Students will not see any classes until the grading period starts.

As a parent or guardian, you will be able to use Schoology to view:

  • Your child’s class.
  • Your child’s assignments and participation.
  • Your child’s calendar.
  • Teacher comments, scores, and feedback.

Parent accounts will be available in mid-August. To access Schoology, parents will need to have an active SIS/ParentVUE account. If you do not have a ParentVue account, please contact Ms. Schmidt at bdschmidt@fcps.edu.

More information about Schoology is available online.

5.Yearbook Sales

We thank you so much for your patience!  We have been able to reorder more yearbooks from our vendor.  The estimated delivery date for this order is the end of July.  If you are interested in purchasing a yearbook, please send in your payment of $15.00 per yearbook.  Payments can be made by either a check made out to “Fairfax Villa Elementary” or cash (exact amount) to the attention of Ms. Wells.  You will be notified as soon as the yearbooks arrive and we will schedule a time for you to pick them up in the office.  If you have any questions please email Ms. Wells at kewells@fcps.edu
