June Newsletter from Principal Tam

Dear Westbriar Parents,

Thank you for the warm welcome back to school, I returned to work on June 1st after being out on FMLA.  As I reflect on this past year, I recognize that it has been a challenging yet growth producing year for many of us.  That said, thank you parents and families for your support of our teachers, programs, and staff.  We are all excited that for the upcoming school year, we will be opening school five days a week and in-person.  For the upcoming school year, we will be returning to our old bell schedule of 9:20am-4:05pm.

School year 2020-2021 would not have been as successful without the help and support of our wonderful PTA Board.  Through their leadership and guidance, we were able to still come together (albeit virtual for some) to still hold many community events this year.

Thank you to our current PTA Board for their service this school year:

Kristy Creagh – President

Ravinder Pannu – VP of Membership

Lindsey Weitz – VP of Enrichment

Deirdre Naughton – Treasurer

Julianna Lieu – Secretary

I want to extend a warm welcome to our newly appointed PTA Board for the 2021-2022 School Year:

Julianna Lieu – President

Kristy Creagh – VP of Membership

Adam Strawn – VP of Enrichment

Krissy Satterfield – Treasurer

Lindsey Weitz – Secretary

I want to also thank our fantastic group of committee leaders and parent volunteers who spearheaded many programs and events for our school this year, such as:  yearbook, social media, school directory, teacher appreciation week, updating display case and school Marquee, science Olympiad, RISE program, Kindergarten Virtual play date, 5k fun run/walk, Science Fair, Spelling Bee, Dining for Dollars, Skate Night and Drive in Movie  – just to name a few of the many programs/events provided by our PTA.  As you can see, our school would not have benefitted from these events or programs without parents volunteering to lead and organize these events.  This further illustrates the importance of having a strong school and community partnership.  Thank YOU PTA and parent volunteers.

At the end of every school year, each school will have teachers who retire, resign, move, or transfer and this year is no different for our school.  I want to say “thank you” and send well wishes to the following teachers who will be in a different place next year:

  • Retirement: Elizabeth Pleasant
  • Moving out of the area: Karen Hall and Luzviminda Garcia
  • Transferring to another FCPS school: Lauren Downs, Deanna Vitale, and Michelle Chamberlain (congratulations on your new role as Librarian).

It continues to be an honor to be your school principal.  Thank you for the trust you continue to give me, our Assistant Principals, and school staff.  We all remain committed to partnering along-side you to ensure your child gets the best out of their elementary experience.

Have a wonderful summer break!
