June Updates

Dear Great Falls Families,

As we begin the process to close out the end of the school year, we are reminded that summer is almost here, and yet we still have much to do to continue and celebrate the learning and achievement of our students.  To that end, this newsletter is packed full of the following information:

Thank you,

Sara Harper

  • Ms. Michelle Pierce will be moving to Kilmer Center to work as a high incidence special education teacher.

Score Report Updates

Thank you for your help and support through SOL testing and other student assessments this year. The following results will be communicated with our families in the following manner:

Reporting Processes:

  • SOL: Results for spring writing and non-writing tests will be distributed to families through new SIS ParentVUE reports, available in late July.
  • WIDA: Results letters will continue to be centrally mailed to families; however, a delay in scores from VDOE will postpone these mailings until early September.
  • VRSPT: Results for new VRSPT assessments will be centrally mailed to families before the start of next school year.
  • iReady/Universal Screener: These reports will be included with progress reports and mailed at the end of the year.
  • VKRP (CBRS/EMAS): (Kindergarten only): These reports will be included with progress reports and mailed at the end of the year.

Please note that not all students participated in each of these assessments.  You were notified if your child was participating in an assessment prior.  As always, please let us know if you have any questions about test results.

More information can be accessed on the Summer Practice Books public webpage.

Computer

Laptop and MiFi Wireless Devices Collection

As the end of the year is drawing to a close, it’s time to prepare for FCPS equipment collection. All students will need to turn in their school laptop at the end of the year.

Students that are attending school in-person will be turning in their laptops during the last week of school with their class. If your child has been attending in-person but still has a computer at home, please be sure to send the laptop with them to school on June 9th or 10th. They will need their laptop at home until the countywide virtual school day on Tuesday, June 8th.

Students that have been all virtual will have the opportunity to do a curbside drop off of their laptop in the front bus loop on:

  • Monday, June 14th from 2 pm - 4pm
  • Tuesday, June 15th from 10am - 12pm.

If you are unavailable to drop off your laptop during this time, please call the front office at 703-757-2100 to schedule a separate appointment.

If your child will be participating in any FCPS summer programs that require the use of a computer, please make sure you still turn in their current laptop. A new one will be provided to them when their summer program begins. If you have any questions about your child’s summer program, please reach out to their teacher and/or case manager.

All students will also need to turn in their laptop charger, any MiFi hotspot device, and/or computer mouse if one was provided to them. We ask that all equipment be cleaned and removed of any personal stickers before turning in. Students in grades 3-6 who received a laptop sleeve, will get to keep that sleeve for use next school year and do not need to turn that in. If you have any outstanding library books, please make sure to turn those in as well.

Thank you for your support in making sure we get all FCPS materials returned!

End of Year Medication Pickup Information

All medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than student dismissal time (1:30 p.m.) on the last day of school, Friday, June 11. Medications left in the health room after that time will be discarded. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student.

If your child will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, your existing long-term medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).

Your cooperation will ensure that we can safely give your student his or her medication.  If you have any questions, please contact Jacqueline Wallce, our school health room aide, at (703) 757.2100 or email jwallace1@fcps.edu. Thank you!
