Weyanoke Update for June 9, 2021

Dear Weyanoke Elementary School Community,

As this school year draws to a close, I would like to take a moment to thank you for an AMAZING school year!  Our students and staff have demonstrated resilience and commitment to learning throughout a year of changes and your support has been instrumental in making this year a success.

We have learned to navigate virtual platforms and new technology tools that have brought our blended learning practices to a new level. Our students have created projects, collaborated with classmates, and shown their thinking in unique ways that demonstrate their growth throughout the course of the year.

As we reflect on this school year and all of the hurdles we have conquered as a school, we are proud and honored to serve our Weyanoke families.

We wish you a relaxing and safe summer and look forward to five days of in-person instruction for the 2021-2022 school year!

Sincerely,

Felicia Usher, Principal

and

Michelle Doyle, Assistant Principal

The link will be active beginning at 6:00 on June 10. The ceremony is expected to begin promptly at 6:30.

Fifth grade students should arrive at Holmes at 5:30 in preparation for the event. Anyone attending in-person must first RSVP to the student's teacher to ensure the safety of all in attendance.

School Laptops, Instruments, and Library Books are DUE

The last day of school for this school year is Friday, June 11. We have several items that must be returned to the school ASAP.

Library Books

Weyanoke school library books are due now. They can be returned to the school with in-person students. For virtual students, books can be dropped off at the front doors during school hours. If you have questions regarding library books, please contact school librarian, Casey Crowe.

Instruments

If your child participated in the band or strings program this year, please return any rented instruments ASAP. They can be dropped off at the main office during school hours, or sent to school with in-person students. Please address any questions to your child's music teacher.

Laptops and Mifi Devices

ALL FCPS student laptops must be returned to school at the end of the school year for inventory and maintenance. If you family has an internet "mifi" device, this will also need to be returned to school. Students participating in summer learning programs WILL get their laptops back for summer learning, and all students returning to Weyanoke next year will be assigned one-to-one student devices.

Please note that laptop sleeves and student mice will not be collected, only the computer charging cable should be turned into school.

IN-PERSON students will leave their laptops at school during the last week of school. Mifi devices should be turned in with their cases and power cables during this time period.

VIRTUAL students must turn in laptops and mifi devices by dropping them off at the school any time during school hours on Friday, June 11; Monday, June 14 or Tuesday, June 15. Mifi devices should also be turned in with their cases and power cables.

Please address any questions about the technology turn-in to Erin Hughey, School Based Technology Specialist.

Health Room Medication Pick Up

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school. Medication left in the health room after that time will be discarded. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student. However, with parent or guardian permission, a high school student may transport over-the-counter medications to and from the school health room.

If your child will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, your existing long-term medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).

SOL Scores

SOL scores will be visible in SIS ParentVUE Student Test History on or around the last day of school (no later than June 15). Contents of the forthcoming SIS official SOL score report, including translations may be found on the SOL Score Report  webpage.
