Weekly News from Silverbrook ES

Our Three Priorities

The Leadership Team at Silverbrook has drafted three priorities of focus for next year.

  1. Strong Tier 1 Instruction
  2. Caring Culture
  3. Cultural Responsiveness, Awareness, and Equitable Practices

Tier 1 Instruction: We will provide rigorous and relevant tier 1 instruction for all students by working as strong collaborative learning teams, using the workshop model in reading (to include working on phonemic awareness and phonics instruction), math and ensuring intervention and enrichment.

Caring Culture: We will provide social emotional support to all students, creating a sense of belonging, safety and inclusivity by using Positivity Project and Responsive Classroom practices, discussing students by name and need and creating safe spaces for student discussions.

Equitable Practices: We will work towards eliminating gaps in opportunity, access, and achievement for students by including equity guiding questions on our collaborative team meetings and discussing disaggregated data.

  • Please remove any stickers and extra adhesive left behind from said stickers.

SPOTLIGHT ON LITERACY: SUMMER READING

The summer months are when students have more time for pleasure reading. The Virginia Readers’ Choice book lists, chosen by the Virginia State Literacy Association, have outstanding books that your child might enjoy reading during the summer. Virginia Readers’ Choice books are categorized into primary titles, elementary titles, and middle school titles. Each highlighted book this month comes from a different VRC category. Silverbrook families may enjoy a read aloud of the book The Oldest Student. Families could also enjoy looking at book trailers for Things Seen from Above and Charlie Hernandez & The League of Shadows by clicking on the links below.
