As we reflect on the 2020-2021 school year, so much has happened. As a school community we have worked together to address new problems and find creative solutions throughout the year. I am most proud of everyone's efforts to ensure that the mental and physical well being of all students, staff and families was kept foremost in our minds. We recognize and appreciate the incredible effort our staff, students and families have put into this year. Kings Park ES is a special place to learn and grow and we look forward to students returning five days per week next fall.

  • 6/10 KP Pride Thursday -
Wear school colors and show your KP pride
  • 6/11 Flyaway Friday -
Grab your passport and discover the world!
Dress how you would on a vacation to your dream destination

FCPS Student Laptop Returns begin tomorrow, June 9th

We will be collecting all FCPS student laptops at the end of this school year, so that we may complete our inventory and maintenance on our laptop collection.

You will have two options for returning the student laptop to the school.

1. Return the laptop at school beginning June 9th.

  • In-person students may simply drop-off the laptop and charger with their classroom teacher
  • Virtual students will drop off computers on the dates and times below. Drop off is simple, please pull forward in the KPES bus lane and staff will collect the equipment from your car and note the return.
    Friday, June 11th  2pm – 3pm or Monday, June 14th 1pm- 2pm

2. If your student is participating in virtual summer learning programs, you may keep the laptop through August 6, 2021.

  • We will have a drop-off window at the end of summer learning programs.

*All laptops should be returned to the school that issued it. To help us plan our FCPS laptop collection, please click here to complete the summer intent form.

If your student will no longer be enrolled in Fairfax County Public Schools, please plan to drop off the FCPS laptop per the instructions above. Please note that we will re-distribute laptops to our students in the fall when our inventory and maintenance is complete, so your student will be able to use an FCPS laptop again next year.  Also, if your student currently has a MiFi device for home internet access, you do not need to return the MiFi at this time, unless you are relocating outside of Fairfax County.

End of year Food Service Update

We would like to share an update on meal service for the end of the year. Prior communication stated June 11th as a bus route distribution day, but this is no longer correct. Due to conflicts with early release, bus routes will not run on June 11th. Additional meals will be offered June 7-10 and June 14th. In addition, we will distribute 7-day meal kits on June 7th, 10th and 14th at all of our grab and go and meal kit sites. Details are available on the website: https://www.fcps.edu/return-school/food.

Summer Use of Digital Tools

Imagine Language and Literacy and Imagine Reading will be available for students this summer. They will log in through Clever, as they have all year.

Pioneer Valley’s Literacy Footprints will be available for the summer for all students who are enrolled in FCPS as of June 10, 2021. Students will log in through the same link as this year. The FCPS Literacy Footprints log in can be found here. Students will have access to the Literacy Footprints books, but will not have access to teacher support.

Summer Checkout Opportunity

Kings Park is offering summer library book curbside pickup for Kings Park students on June 30, July 14, and July 28.  All students who would like to borrow books for summer reading, should complete our Google form indicating pickup date and student book requests.  Search our catalog  to view books in our collection for ideas as you make requests.  Or, request a grab bag of library books by theme, series, or author.  Our summer library staff will do their best to fulfill requests based on availability.  Place requests at least 3 days before planned pickup date.

KPES Summer Reading Challenge
June 13th-Aug 21st

Enjoy reading this summer!  Read to yourself and others.  Listen while others read to you.  Read stories and information!  Optional:  Use this home log to track your reading minutes and activities. Set a goal to read for 100 minutes per week (or 15 minutes per day). Between June 13th - August 21st, share your progress with us using this Google form each time you read for 200 minutes and/or complete 5 activities.  Students, who share their progress using the Google form by August 28th, will be included in an upcoming KPOV News reading celebration.  Check out this video for more information on how to complete our Summer Reading Challenge.

We would love to see a photo of you reading this summer.  If you would like to share a photo of you with your book or eBook, please send it in a TWEET to @kingsparklions, or send it by email to our Librarian, Ms. Halloran, rhalloran@fcps.edu

Transported After School Program

Our After School Program (AMP) is the perfect alternative to SACC/Daycare.  Your child will get a daily Taekwondo class, snack and quiet/homework time.  So a child should have gotten a good workout and their homework done when you pick up so you can enjoy the rest of your evening together.

Did you miss the Kings Park Yearbook sale?  Many families are having luck reaching directly out to the vendor, Strawbridge Studios, for a yearbook.  However, the PTA is not sure how long this option will be available.

At the PTA's final meeting of the school year, the PTA took some time to honor retiring King Glen principal, Sam Elson.  Kings Park/Kings Glen parent, Heather Rose-Glowacki, created this beautiful video honoring Mr. Elson, his 16 years as principal of Kings Glen, and his impact on our community.  Thank you, Sam, for your ongoing support of our PTA and our community.  And thank you, Heather, for creating such a touching tribute.

Stay in touch with the PTA over the summer to learn about Back to School activities and more.  Join our Facebook group and/or subscribe to our newsletter.
