1. Principal's Message


Calendar Reminder: FCPS Schools and Offices Closed on May 31 for Memorial Day Holiday

As a reminder, schools and offices will be closed on Monday, May 31, for the Memorial Day holiday. Students are not expected to complete asynchronous assignments that day. Classes will resume on Tuesday, June 1. See the complete 2020-21 school year calendar

GBW Volunteer Appreciation Celebration- Thursday, June 3, 4:30-5:30 p.m.

Have you been volunteering this year at GBW with the PTA, yearbook, in the front office, in our classrooms, or in any other capacity? 

  • If so, we would love to celebrate and honor your volunteerism at our annual Volunteer Appreciation Celebration scheduled for Thursday, June 3, on our blacktop by the playground. 

Please RSVP using this Google Form by Tuesday, June 1 so we can have an accurate head count (please include any children / family members in your count if they will be joining you).  Also please plan to bring your own camping chairs so we can spread out to honor the CDC guidelines for social distancing.

6th Grade: Promotion Ceremony, Car Parade, and Party on Monday, June 7

Congratulations to our graduating class of 2021!  In an effort to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of our graduating 6th graders, we will be hosting three separate events for our 6th grade students / families on Monday, June 7:

9:00 – 10:30 a.m. 6th Grade Promotion Ceremony

  • 6th grade families will receive a link to join this virtual event in a future email from GBW. 

12:45 – 1:30 p.m. 6th Grade Car Parade

  • Families will be invited to drive through our K&R / Bus lane as the GBW staff will line up to cheer for our graduating 6th graders

1:30 – 3:30 p.m. 6th Grade Party

  • 6th Grade students will be invited to come in-person for their class party here at Greenbriar West (virtual students will be invited to attend as well, but please know that FCPS transportation will not be provided).
  • Our 6th Grade Teachers will ensure that we continue to adhere to all of the FCPS Mitigation Strategies and CDC Safety Guidelines at this event (mask wearing, hand washing, social distancing, etc…)

2. FCPS Meals Information

Meal kits are available to ALL FCPS students and children 18 years of age and under at no cost. Parents and caregivers may pick up one meal kit for each child. Adults may purchase meal kits for $28. Instructions on how to store the food and prepare it are provided with the kit.

Location for pickup is at Door 8, located by the side parking lot.

Monday, June 7 : 9:30am-12pm (note time change for this date) or until supply is depleted. Distribution is opening and closing early to accommodate the 6th grade parade.  (7 day kits containing breakfast, lunch, snack, and supper)

Thursday, June 10: 10am -12:30pm or until supply is depleted.
(7 day kits containing breakfast and lunch)

Friday, June 11: 10am -12:30pm or until supply is depleted.
(7 day kits containing breakfast and lunch)

 


3. GBW Library - All Library Books Are Due Tomorrow!

Book Return

All Greenbriar West Library Books from last year and this current school year are due TOMORROW, May 28th. 

Students & families will be receiving emails with specific titles they still have out. Please reach out to Mrs. Wilhelm regarding any items on your account that you are unable to locate.

There is a wagon outside of the main entrance (Door 1) during school hours for families to drop off their books. If the wagon is not outside, please ring the doorbell.

4. Student Laptop Collection: Grades K-6

This year, all students will be required to return their laptops and chargers.  If a student was issued a MiFi Wireless hotspot, it should also be returned at the same time.

  • ONLY the laptop and power cord need to be returned; bags will not be collected, students can keep the laptop cases at their homes and use them next year.
  • All laptops need to be cleaned prior to being returned; stickers removed and residue cleaned- DO NOT remove the barcode.
  • Laptop pocket should have student ID card or student ID number & name written on paper for check-in purposes.
  • All power cords must be neatly wrapped.

In-Person Students

  • K-6 students will be returning their laptops on June 9 and June 10.
  • Laptop drop off will be in the upstairs hallway by the elevator.
    • K – 10:00am-10:15am
    • 1st – 10:15am-10:30am
    • 2nd – 10:30am-10:45am
    • 3rd – 10:45am-11:00am
    • 4th—11:00am-11:15am
    • 5th – 11:15am-11:30am
    • 6th—11:30am-11:45am

Virtual Students

Students may turn in their laptop and charger (No Bags) on any of the following dates, assuming they are able to use a personal device that meets all of the requirements for remaining instruction.

  • Early Collection
    • June 7-10: 8:00am-9:00am (Kiss and Ride Entrance Door #8)
  • Last Day of School Collection
    • June 11: 8am-9am, 2:30pm-4:00pm (Kiss and Ride Entrance Door #8)
    • June 14: 9:00am-12:00pm  (Kiss and Ride Entrance Door #8)
    • June 15: anytime between 8:30am-12pm (Main Office Entrance Door #1)
    • ALL FCPSOn laptops, except for students in ESY and Summer School, should have their laptops returned no later than June 15!

Missing / Lost Equipment

Parents/guardians are required to reimburse the school for the replacement of any lost devices. Checks should be made out to Greenbriar West Elementary for the cost of the device or pay it directly at https://www.myschoolbucks.com/ver2/getmain.action?clientKey=&requestAction=

6. Emergency Broadband Benefit Program

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has announced that the $3.2 billion Emergency Broadband Benefit Program will launch on May 12. This federal program will provide a $50/month ($75/month on tribal lands) subsidy for the cost of internet service for select individuals for 6 months. The list of Virginia's participating broadband providers can be found - here.

Eligible households can sign up for the program directly through their broadband provider or online. For more information and to sign up, visit the program website - https://getemergencybroadband.org/

GBW Wins Box Tops!

In the Box Top Coordinators Rock Giveaway, GBW was selected as one of the Grand Prize Winners of 500 Bonus Box Tops ($50) and a prize pack (Box Tops t-shirt, water bottle, and tote bag)!  Keep saving those box tops and submitting them so we can keep earning money for GBW!
