Dominion Energy Book Donations

We are so excited about the new books Briana Terry and Dominic Minor donated to Oak Hill on behalf of the African American Resource Group (AARG) at Dominion Energy to our library and individual classroom libraries.  The AARG is working to add these valued additions to all FCPS libraries and Oak Hill is lucky to be the first!

Yearbook Distribution Information

c

Yearbooks are in and distribution began this week!
If your child is virtual and not taking the SOL test, we will be distributing yearbooks this week from 4:00 – 4:30 pm in front of the building.  Please pull into the bus loop and wait for a staff member to approach you.  We ask that you please wear a mask.  If you will not be able to pick up your yearbook during these times, please call the front office at 703-467-3500 to arrange another time between 8am-4:30pm.

If your child is in-person, classroom teachers will distribute them for students to take home during the week.

We do have a very limited number of extra Yearbooks if you would still like to buy one.  They are $19 and checks should be made payable to Oak Hill Elementary School.

Student Intention Survey 2021-2022

f

In order to ensure that we have the right number of staff in place to greet our returning students in August, we request that you fill out this simple survey indicating your child's intention to return to Oak Hill next year.  Please fill it out for each child attending Oak Hill by Friday May 21, 2021.  If you indicate that you will not be returning, our registrar, Katherine Dillard, will reach out via email for more information.  Please contact Ms. Dillard with questions at kjdillard1@fcps.edu.

Jewish American Heritage Month

f

In May we celebrate Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM).  This is an annual recognition and celebration of American Jews' achievements and contributions to the United States of America.

President George W. Bush first proclaimed the month on April 20, 2006, as a result of cooperation with Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA), as well as the Jewish Museum of Florida and the South Florida Jewish Community.  Since then, annual proclamations have been made by Presidents Bush, Obama, Trump, and Biden.  For more information about Jewish American Heritage Month click here.

Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month

c

In May, people all over the United States celebrate Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Students deserve meaningful, sustained opportunities to learn about the diverse perspectives, experiences, and contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders year-round, and Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month is one opportunity to honor these important stories.

To support teachers and school divisions to that end, FCPS Social Studies, in collaboration with a group of community stakeholders and educators across subject areas, developed ideas for classroom learning experiences across content areas and grade levels
