Summer Jump Start Program for Rising 7th Graders

Cooper Middle School

Cooper Prep sessions will take place on August 11th and 12th. Morning sessions will take place from 8:00-10:30 am and afternoon sessions will take place from 12:00-2:30 pm. Each session is identical, students should attend one day and one session only.

Who: All rising 7th grade students enrolling at Cooper Middle School for the 2021-2022 school year.

What: Cooper Prep is a program intended to ease the transition from elementary to middle school for rising 7th graders. Students will become familiar with Cooper and learn about expectations for students by familiarizing themselves with the building, understanding our schedule, meeting our staff and students, and learning more about “life at Cooper”. Students will also learn about organization, time management, and cooperative learning strategies that will help them have a successful school year.

Where: In addition to the face-to-face Cooper Prep orientation, all students will have access to virtual learning opportunities during the summer to help them prepare for the transition to middle school. The virtual Cooper Prep program will be posted on Cooper’s website. Synchronous, face-to-face sessions will occur at Cooper Middle School on August 11th & 12th. Each day will have two sessions, one offered in morning, and another in the afternoon. The morning and afternoon sessions will be identical. Students should attend one session only.

When: Registration links to sign your child up for a Cooper Prep session will be posted on the Cooper Website on May 24th, space is limited. Transportation will not be provided- parents are responsible for pickup/drop off.  Carpooling is encouraged.

How: Once you have successfully registered your child, you will receive an email confirming their registration for the program. Please reach out to Emily Knupp (eaknupp1@fcps.edu) or Sarah Hartman (sahartman2@fcps.edu)  with any questions you may have.

We look forward to welcoming your child to Cooper Prep this summer!

Longfellow Middle School

Longfellow is excited to host the summer Jump Start Program. The Jump Start program is a primarily nonacademic transitional program that focuses on helping rising 7th graders get to know LMS and the expectations of middle school. Students will participate in sessions covering topics such as study skills, test taking strategies, and time management techniques with a Longfellow counselor. Jump Start to Success helps ensure a smoother transition to middle school by introducing students to staff, peers, school layout, and basic policies before the school year begins. Students will partake in scavenger hunts, locker relay races, and daily physical education activities throughout the week as well. There will be two sessions with the same content (sessions are separated due to the number of participants). Session A will take place August 3rd and 4th from  8:30-12:30 and Session B will take place August 5th and 6th from 8:30-12:30.We will do our best to accommodate your session request. The fee for the program is $25 and financial assistance is available for students in need. Payment must be submitted using MySchoolBucks. If you have any questions, please contact Riley Barrows, rtbarrows1@fcps.edu.
