Stenwood Hive Happenings

Hive Happenings Newsletter

Dear Stenwood Families,

It was a busy week in the hive! Our 3rd-6th graders completed their Reading SOLs this week, including many of our virtual students who came into the building to complete these assessments.  It was wonderful to see so many more of our students in person!  We had communicated with virtual families of students who are testing that the Kiss N Ride loop would be open early for their child’s arrival and are asking for your help to please ONLY drop off at 8:40am if your child is participating in the SOL that morning.  We need to make sure all of our students who are testing arrive as early and as stress free as possible, so we appreciate your support.  All families whose students are not testing should plan to arrive in the loop at the regular 8:50 - 9:00am drop off time.  Our students in grades 3-6 will participate in their math SOLs next week.

Our teachers have begun communicating to room parents regarding our end of year celebrations with the class.  We will be inviting ALL students (in-person and virtual) to attend an outdoor reunion to wish each other well for the summer during designated blocks in the last week of school.  Due to COVID restrictions, these celebrations will look differently than our class parties in years past, but we are excited to afford our students an opportunity to connect with each other outdoors before we recess for summer.  Please stay tuned for communication regarding the last week of school events!

Though the CDC put out new guidance regarding masks for vaccinated individuals, FCPS continues to have its regulation in place, partly because we have no way of knowing who is vaccinated.  Please make sure you are masked on our property during arrival and dismissal unless you are inside your vehicle.  Thank you for modeling for our students and for not having Dr. Mitchell, myself, or any other members of our staff ask you to do so.

Face Masks Are Still Required at All Times at All FCPS Sites, Indoors and Outdoors

On Thursday, April 29th, Governor Ralph Northam amended Executive Order Seventy-Two to adopt new guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on mask use in outdoor settings. The CDC guidelines state that fully vaccinated individuals do not have to wear masks outdoors when alone or in small gatherings. Mask use is still required indoors and outdoors on FCPS sites.

What does that mean for FCPS?

  • Sports (to include spectators of FCPS events) must continue to wear masks.  Only athletes engaged in active play may remove their masks.
  • Until further notice, FCPS’ Regulation 2109 still requires masks in facilities and on school property as FCPS has no way of knowing who is and who isn’t vaccinated.

Library Book Checkout & Return

Virtual students can still check out books, but do not need to wait until Mondays for pickup.  Once Mrs. Cole has pulled the books, you will get an email letting you know that the books are ready for pickup in the main foyer in the front of the school.  You can pick them up any day during regular school hours.  There will also be a return bin for any books coming back to the library.
