Principal's Message

Dear Bulldog Family--

I hope that you have all been enjoying your weekend, and I wish an incredible Mother’s Day to all of our Bulldog Moms! This week was amazing as we recognized our teaching staff who have been working so unbelievably hard this year. We had generous contributions from the PTSA, Athletic Boosters, and groups of individual parents to help pull off this week long celebration. A HUGE thank you to all of those who contributed!

There is a lot of information this week so please make sure to read through carefully. Some of this is information that you either have seen or will see from the county, and others are more specific to Westfield and upcoming events.  As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions, concerns, feedback or celebrations. You can also communicate directly through the form located here: https://forms.gle/4eW9rgPRVBF2a5gd8

Go Bulldogs!

Upcoming Surveys

FCPS has several surveys that they will be sending out to families, and we want you to be aware of these. We encourage you to complete them and share honest feedback. Below are the surveys and dates you can expect to receive them:

  • May 5-14: Anti-Bias/Anti-Racism Policy Survey
  • May 17-21: Distance Learning Check-In (Random Sampling)
  • May 28-June 11: Distance Learning Spring Comprehensive Surveys

Grading Updates

As you have previously seen, FCPS is adjusting the grading policy for the 2020-21 school year to ensure students are not penalized by the challenges brought on by pandemic learning.

Key policy changes for high school students are listed below:

  • Final Exam flexibility that ensures an exam can only serve to improve a student’s grade for the year. Teachers will apply this in their grading practices for each class.
  • Use of No Mark, “NM”, instead of “F” grades for all courses. This will be automatically applied for any course in which a student receives an “F.”
  • Allowing high school students to select a mark of “P” for pass for up to two courses for which a passing grade is earned for the final mark. As referenced above, for the 2020-21 school year, final marks of “F” will automatically receive a No Mark, “NM.”
    • Action Needed: Should you wish to designate one or more courses as Pass - No Mark status, the attached form must be submitted to your school counselor by June 1, 2021. Please note that we have extended the previous deadline to allow more time for students and families to gain more information about their fourth quarter progress before making the decision to request a “P”.
    • The course title is required on the form, but the course number may be left blank if you do not have it available.

Students and families are encouraged to carefully consider the option for Pass. Additional information including translated forms, considerations,  and frequently asked questions are available at the following link: https://www.fcps.edu/academics/grading-and-reporting/secondary

Outside Food

As a continuing safety precaution, we will not accept any food or beverage deliveries at our school to include parent drop off, fast food, or local delivery services.  We are continuing to limit the number of visitors entering our building, as well as minimize office staff handling outside packages.  Outside food is both a safety concern and is in direct competition with FCPS food services.   Furthermore, delivery drivers are often directed to use entrances that are NOT authorized for use during the school day.  Please help us to support a safe and secure building for our students and staff
