Mustang Message - May 16, 2021

4th Grade Concurrent Learning

Dear Bren Mar Park Families,

It is hard to believe that it is the middle of May.  SOL testing is almost complete.  Summer is almost here.  And the end of the 2021-22 school year is in sight!

Summer programming is being planned now.  Bren Mar Park will be hosting Rec PAC for interested families this summer. Several of our teachers will be teaching the Summer program, including Bridge to K and 1, Young Scholars, and SOAR for current grades 1-5.  Due to limited availability, these programs are by invitation only.  Should an opportunity arise for your child to be invited to participate, a member of the front office team will reach out to you.  For all families, Summer Practice Books will be mailed home in early June and should arrive prior to the last day of school.

Take care,

Mrs. Williams

Proud BMP Principal

Front Office Closed

The Bren Mar Park front office will be closed to the public on Monday, May 17, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. for professional learning.  Email communication to a member of the front office may be delayed as well.

Student Check Out Process

For parents/guardians who are checking out students from the school building, please remember that you are required to bring a government-issued photo identification, such as a passport or drivers license, so that we can ensure the safety of your child.

Message from Your PTA

Thank you to the volunteers that made Teacher Appreciation Week special!

The BMP PTA hopes to see you at the next PTA Meeting, Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at 6pm. A BBCU link will be provided 2 hours before the meeting.

From our last meeting, congratulations to the following new PTA board members:

  • Kristen Melita, incoming PTA President
  • Katie Hollier, current and incoming Treasurer
  • Treffaney Lowe, incoming VP of Community Engagement

We are still in need of a Secretary to have a PTA next year!  If you are interested or would like nominate someone, use this link to submit a name or email the bmp.pta@gmail

The PTA is also seeking additional volunteers to help with:

  • June 6 - Assist the PTA Treasurer, Katie Hollier, to review financial records and compliance documents. The Financial Review is a great way to understand the PTA functions.
  • June 9 (Rain date, June 10) - Assist Mrs. Williams in celebrating our BMP staff at an End of Year Staff BBQ. We are looking for:
    • Provide a Grill – let BMP borrow a grill for cooking
    • Set Up/Clean Up – help set up/clean up tables and food items
    • Grill Masters – volunteer time to grill hamburgers and hot dogs, 4:30 – 5:15 p.m.

Please contact the BMP PTA if you can help with either at bmp.pta@gmail

Back to School for 5 Days in the Fall

Fall Return to 5 Days Per Week

Our staff is so excited to offer 5 days of in-person instruction to all students this fall!  Our administrative team, teachers, and support staff are committed to continuing to provide a safe place for your students to learn in our school.

We understand that there may be unique and personal reasons for students to remain virtual.  There will be an opportunity for virtual enrollment this fall, however it will be very limited. Should you find yourself in this situation, please understand that there is an application process, and eligibility will be determined based on a health/medical certification.

All initial applications for virtual instruction based upon medical need is due no later than May 28, 2021.

International Night

Join us as we celebrate the amazing diversity of Bren Mar Park at this year’s (virtual) International Night!  Your family can share many things from your country/culture: a musical performance, dance, reading a poem in your language, modeling some beautiful clothing, showing some delicious foods, or talking about art/artifacts.

If your family would like to participate, please use this flipgrid link for your performance: https://flipgrid.com/1b3a4b1d

Performances will be shared the night of the event.

SOL Testing Calendar

SOL Schedule
  • All SOL tests are taken in-person at school. SOL tests are not available for remote delivery from home.
  • For any SOL assessments this spring, you have the right to refuse testing for your student. The Right to Refuse Assessments webpage (https://www.fcps.edu/node/34277) offers information and considerations. If you choose to refuse the SOL tests, please complete this online Google form. Contact Sandra Chetelat, Parent Liaison at 703-914-7253 if you need help.

Yearbook & School Photos This Year

Due to the delayed start of in-person school, and based on feedback around the concern that many of our families have had about coming into the school building, Bren Mar Park will not have a yearbook for this school year.  Instead, staff will create and develop a memory activity or product with and for the students in their grade levels.  Photos will be made available to classroom communities.

Fall school pictures are scheduled for Wednesday, September 8, 2021.

Specialist Spotlight

Spotlight on P.E.

We are truly enjoying seeing a lot more students for in-person for PE.  We are continuing doing basketball skills for the upper grades. This includes dribbling skills, layups and shooting drills.  We maintain 6 ft distance between students and every student has their own basketball. Students at home are working on Zumba dances and fitness and cardio workouts.  Lower grade level students are working on catching with self and drippling skills with soft balls.  We are playing noodle tag maintaining social distancing with all grade levels to work on chasing and fleeing skills and the cardiorespiratory system. Since we are no longer required to wear mask outside if students maintain 10ft of separation, we will be starting soccer skills next week outside on the field with all in-school students. Students will work on dribbling, passing with partner and shooting skills.

Thanks, Dave & Joe
