Franklin MS Weekly Update - May 7

Franklin Families and Students,

Good afternoon. We had a wonderful Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week at Franklin! Our gratitude goes out to all of the Franklin families for your generosity and kindness that made this a special week for our staff. I would like to send a huge THANK YOU to the Franklin PTA for everything they did this week to make our staff feel very appreciated. They went above and beyond and our staff is very grateful.

I also wanted to take this opportunity to highlight some important updates and upcoming events at our school. There is additional information about many of these topics in the main section of this message.

  • The administration of the SOL assessments begins at our school on Monday, May 10. Please review the important information below for Virtual and In-Person students who will be taking these assessments next week.
  • Earlier this week, FCPS shared information about the Limited Virtual Program that will be available during the 2021-2022 school year. That communication contains a lot of information and I encourage you to read it carefully if you are interested in this option. Please be sure to note that the first step in the process, the Intent to Apply form, must be submitted by May 9. No action is necessary if you wish your child to return to in-person learning in the Fall.

I will close by sending best wishes for a Happy Mother’s Day this weekend to all of the mothers that are a part of the Franklin community.

Sincerely,

Dustin Wright

Principal

SOL Testing

  • Virtual Students Testing on Monday
    • SOL testing begins Monday, May 10. All Monday testing begins at 7:30 AM. Please plan to drop your student off between 7:10 AM and 7:25 AM to ensure they have time to make it to their testing room.
    • All Monday testing ends at 11:30 AM. Please plan to pick your child up by those times. If your student finishes testing before the end of the block, you are welcome to pick them up earlier. Students will be permitted to call their parents for a ride.
    • Parents of students who are testing on Monday, May 10 and Monday, May 17 should have received an email message from Mrs. Davenport regarding bus stops and times. Please contact the main office with questions about bus transportation for SOL testing.
  • In-Person Students Testing on Tuesday
    • Here is the testing calendar with times and links to the adjusted Bell Schedules for Tuesday test days.
  • Laptop Reminders for All Students
    • All students will use their FCPS issued laptop to take their SOL tests. It is very important that they make sure their device passes the FCPS Health Check and has the latest version of the required testing software installed. For virtual students, this means a trip to an FCPS school building where they can connect to the FCPS network (this can be done from most school parking lots at any time of day). Here is the information that was shared with students through their Falcon Time Classes.
    • Students are expected to bring their fully charged laptop and their charger with them for testing.
    • Students also need to bring pencils and a book to read after the test (they will not be able to use any electronic devices until the testing block is over).
