We Love & Appreciate Our
GBW Teachers & Staff!
This week we paused to show our appreciation for our teachers and staff who are “the” Front Line workers of our GBW community. While many communities struggled to survive during a pandemic school year - they helped our community thrive! They were the rock that helped provide stability to our students and families. We just want to thank them all for being there for our students, our families, and our community when we needed them most. Our teachers and staff tirelessly dedicated themselves to working long hours and learning new technology while demonstrating flexibility to succeed, regardless of countless changes from the school system and health department. Their actions speak so much louder than words, and their actions have shown in a big way exactly how big their love is for our students.
We are beyond grateful to have an amazing staff who are kind, compassionate, dedicated, talented, and hardworking. They will always be the glue that binds this community together in such a way that even a pandemic could not break us apart.
Also, we want to give a huge shout-out to the PTA and parents! This week, our amazing PTA treated our staff to a Mexican luncheon, bagels, coffee, an open vending machine, ice cream, and more! We are grateful for their generosity towards and appreciation of our fabulous teachers and staff. Thank you, PTA and parents!
 
Class Placements for 2021-2022 - Grades K-5
Dear Parents / Guardians of all GBW Students in Grades K-5,
In a few weeks the Greenbriar West staff will begin our collaborative work of designing our class placements for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year. Knowing that parents are an integral member of our GBW learning team, we welcome and encourage parents / guardians to share feedback with our school about your child’s learning needs by completing the Student Survey Form. If you would like to share feedback with GBW about multiple children in your family, please complete a separate form for each child.
Later in May, GBW will be scheduling class placement meetings with classroom teachers, specialists, ESOL teachers, and Special Education Teachers to review the feedback / responses submitted on these forms. This Student Survey data, as well as a variety of other data sources, will be considered as we make class placement decisions for the 2021-2022 school year. Please note that we do not accept requests for a specific teacher, and the feedback should focus more on your child’s learning needs. Being that our class placement process requires a lot of collaboration with multiple stakeholders, any feedback received after May 21st will not be included in our class placement processes.

GBW Volunteer Appreciation Celebration- Thursday (6/3) 4:30-5:30 p.m.
Have you been volunteering this year at GBW with the PTA, yearbook, in the front office, in our classrooms, or in any other capacity?
- If so, we would love to celebrate and honor your volunteerism at our annual Volunteer Appreciation Celebration scheduled for Thursday, June 3, on our blacktop by the playground.
Please RSVP using this Google Form by Friday, May 21 so we can have an accurate head count (please include any children / family members in your count if they will be joining you). Also please plan to bring your own camping chairs so we can spread out to honor the CDC guidelines for social distancing.
Testing dates for SOLs have been determined. Click here for the SOL Testing Schedule. Parents will receive further details within the next few days regarding testing specifics, both for in-person and virtual students.
Distribution: Mondays, 10:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Meal kits are available to ALL FCPS students and children 18 years of age and under at no cost. Each meal kit contains breakfast, lunch, snack and supper for one person. Parents and caregivers may pick up one meal kit for each child. Adults may purchase meal kits for $28.
Instructions on how to store the food and prepare it are provided with the kit.
Location for pickup is at Door 8, located by the side parking lot.
Last day for Library Curbside Pick-Up - Monday, May 10 from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. and 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Please note: All library books are due on May 28! Library books can be returned to the front of the school anytime during school hours.
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to GBW!!
This is a great way to stock up on books for summer reading!
There are 2 ways to shop:
- You can shop the Scholastic Book Fair in-person on the GBW Blacktop located behind the school. Please wear a mask and maintain social distance. The in-person Book Fair will be open:
- Saturday, May 15th - 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. (Rain date Saturday, 5/22)
- Monday, May 17th - 11:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, May 19th - 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. (Rain date Thursday, 5/20)
- Monday, May 24th - 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.
- You can shop online at the Virtual Book Fair from May 12 - May 25! See the GBW Scholastic Website for details.

Emergency Broadband Benefit Program
From the FCC: "The Emergency Broadband Benefit Program will provide eligible households with discounts of up to $50 a month for broadband service, and up to $75 a month if the household is on Tribal lands. It also will provide a one-time discount of up to $100 on a computer or tablet for eligible households."
