Dear Woodburn Families,

We have truly felt the love and appreciation this week.  Thank you to our PTA and families for going above and beyond to celebrate our teachers and staff.  You make Woodburn a special place to work!  We speak for all of our staff in sharing that we are grateful to be part of this amazing community.

We look forward to learning and growing together next week!

4th Quarter Interims

Families will not receive an interim for their child this quarter.  Our teachers are hard at work collecting end of the year data and all progress will be shared in the end of year report card.  Please reach out to your child's teacher should you want information about growth made so far this quarter.

Parent Input for Next School Year

We are already working on our plans for the 2021-2022 school year! Class placements are an essential component of learning and building community. If you have information that you would like us to consider as we determine placements, please share your input by answering a few questions on the form shared below.  We know that a good teacher-student match and a productive mix of children are ingredients for success, and we carefully consider each child’s strengths and needs during this process. Please do not request specific teachers, as this does not take into account the many variables we must take into consideration. It is far more valuable to share particular academic or behavioral information.

Completion of this form is optional. If you would like to provide input, you may use the online form shared below; print, complete and email to Katy Richman (kjrichman@fcps.edu); or submit a hard copy to the office.  All forms are due by May 21, 2021. This is a hard deadline. Please know that input from forms turned in over the summer are difficult to honor since the grouping process has already started.

NVFS Parent Workshop - Making Positive Connections with Our Children - May 13

This workshop will be led by NVFS on May 13 at 6:00 p.m. in English and 7:00 p.m. in Spanish. Please join us!

As parents, we sometimes struggle to communicate with our kids and want to try a different strategy. We often find ourselves shouting at our kids and then regretting it. Also, we may feel guilty of seeing parenting as a stressful job. Join us for a conversation around strategies to parenting our kids from a place of love and connection. These strategies will help you and your kids regulate your emotions and develop a relationship based on healthy communication and respect. Woodburn Yearbook

This year is definitely one for the books – the Woodburn 2020-21 Yearbook that is!

Be a part of this most unique year by sharing a picture or two of your child virtual learning during this school year for our Woodburn Elementary Yearbook!

This will be a ‘virtual’ yearbook to be shared with all students. We’d love to see your kids learning virtually, participating in activities online, or how they took breaks in between.

Family members should get into the pictures too! We couldn’t have done this without your help and support.

Please submit your photos here - https://woodburnes.fcps.edu/node/4844

The deadline for picture submission is May 14th ~ don’t delay!

Thank you!

"Swing Dancers" created by 3rd Grade Woodburn Artist, Nora Mertz

We invite you to join us on Thursday, May 27th at 6:30 pm for a virtual celebration of our 2021 Link Up program!  We will come together as a school community to watch musical and artistic performances by students, teachers, and Fairfax Symphony Orchestra (FSO) musicians.  There will be fun learning games for all!

With help from our amazing community partner, the FSO, Woodburn students have been learning a musical program about Jazz and Swing music in their General Music and Visual Art classes.  Many schools in our area are participating in this program and Woodburn has taken a leading role!  Several of our Woodburn students and teachers are featured frequently throughout an engaging and interactive video they have produced.  We are excited to celebrate the arts and our students’ achievements throughout this event and hope you’re able to join us!
