Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week 2021

May 3-7 is Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week. We are so thankful for all the hard work our staff do every day to make our school a great place to learn and work!

Please join us in celebrating FCHS' amazing, creative, and caring teachers & staff who inspire our students each day.

Attendance Matters!

Attendance drives everything! It is tied to almost every aspect of school performance and future outcomes.

What to Say to Your Children:

  • School only gets harder when you stay home too much. Sometimes it’s tempting to stay home because you’ve got too much work or you don’t understand what’s going on in class. But missing a day only makes that worse.
  • We understand that you will get sick sometimes and need to stay home. The important thing is to get to school as often as possible to help stay on track with assignments.
  • Chronic absence can affect your ability to earn a living. Dropouts are less likely to succeed in a career. And even those who do graduate won’t do well at work without good attendance habits. Nearly 80 percent of people in prison lack a high school diploma.

It’s important to communicate these and other needs to our Dean, SOSA, administrators, counselors, & clinicians.

Please note that this is a "living document" as the date/time of some events may be adjusted (exam schedule is solid). We will post a new schedule and update you if changes are made.

Please note that Tuesday, June 8 is now a virtual synchronous exam day for students. All underclass students will access their 1st and 3rd period exams virtually.

Face Masks Are Required at All Times at All FCPS Sites, Indoors and Outdoors

Despite the recent change in guidelines from the CDC on wearing face masks outdoors, Fairfax County Public Schools is still requiring that face masks are worn by spectators at all sporting events.

Please make sure you have one with you when entering FCPS facilities. Universal masking is the best way to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all spectators.

Please Note: Face masks are not required for athletes when engaged in competition.

What Should Families Know About ESOL Services?

Listen to the latest Spanish, Arabic, and Korean podcasts on what FCPS families should know about English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) services. Nearly 49%, or 87,571 students, in Fairfax County Public Schools speak a second language. This week's podcasts include a discussion about FCPS English Language Services. Rich Pollio, director of FCPS ESOL Services, talks about why ESOL services are important, how families are notified about ESOL services, how families can help at home, new school to home communication tools, and adult English Language Classes.
