Class Placements for 2021-2022 - Grades K-5

Dear Parents / Guardians of all GBW Students in Grades K-5,

In a few weeks the Greenbriar West staff will begin our collaborative work of designing our class placements for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year. Knowing that parents are an integral member of our GBW learning team, we welcome and encourage parents / guardians to share feedback with our school about your child’s learning needs by completing the Student Survey Form. If you would like to share feedback with GBW about multiple children in your family, please complete a separate form for each child.

Later in May, GBW will be scheduling class placement meetings with classroom teachers, specialists, ESOL teachers, and Special Education Teachers to review the feedback / responses submitted on these forms. This Student Survey data, as well as a variety of other data sources, will be considered as we make class placement decisions for the 2021-2022 school year. Please note that we do not accept requests for a specific teacher, and the feedback should focus more on your child’s learning needs. Being that our class placement process requires a lot of collaboration with multiple stakeholders, any feedback received after May 21st will not be included in our class placement processes.

Thank you in advance for continuing to partner with GBW to help ensure that we provide the best learning experience for your child in the upcoming school year.

June 8 - Primary Election

Tuesday, June 8, is the Democratic Primary Election.  Because Fairfax County Electoral Board and City of Fairfax Electoral Board will be using 165 school facilities as polling locations, June 8 will be a virtual synchronous learning day (no in-person classes) for students.

More information will be provided in the near future.

2. Student Intention Form - Grades K to 5

Student’s Intention for Next School Year Form:  There are a large number of families who have not yet responded.  Whether or not your child will be returning to GBW for 2021-22, we need to know.  This will greatly help us in projecting our total enrollment for next school year.  Please return the form as soon as possible.

You may drop off, fax, email or mail the intention form to the Greenbriar West Main Office.  Office Hours:  8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., M-F

  • Fax:  703-633-6797
  • Email: pli@fcps.edu
  • Mail:  13300 Poplar Tree Rd, Fairfax, VA 22033 (Attn: Patty Li)

The form is preferable, however, if you are unable to provide the form please email Mrs. Li (using the email above) and indicate one of the following:

  • YES, my student (name) will be returning,
  • NO, my student (name) will not be returning.
  • Please indicate “Student Intent for 2021-22” in the subject line.

3. The Yearbook is in Production!

A huge THANK YOU to Amy McPherson for the countless months, days, and hours she spent on creating the yearbook. She deigned layouts, assisted parents with uploading photos, and collected pictures to capture our year. We are truly grateful for her dedication to our students, staff and community.

And thank you as well to Janet McFadden, who despite not having a student at GBW this year, took on the responsibility of creating the 7-Year Club and 6th Grade pages. Thank you Janet for your time and dedication.

And to all the parents, teachers and staff who submitted pictures, we would not have been able to have a yearbook without you! Thank you for helping the yearbook committee create a keepsake that students and families will enjoy now and in the future, when we look back and say "WOW, what a year it was!"
