Scottie Tales for the week of April 26

A Note From Your Principal

It was great seeing all these students back in the building last week. We've returned to eating lunch in the cafeteria (for most students), having PE in the gym, music in the music rooms and most importantly- more in-person learning is happening.

Last Thursday was Earth Day and to celebrate we held our April Bonnie Brae Gives Back event during the school day. The students spent their recess time cleaning up the school grounds, the ball fields and blacktop area. A special thanks to the PTO who went out and procured student gloves and trash bags for the cleanup efforts. The grounds look great!

There will be additional opportunities for certain students to receive in-person instruction this summer. While information about these programs is still being solidified by the county, the dates for students will be July 12- July 30. More information on the summer learning opportunities will be coming out shortly.

With all that is going on and changing it is hard to believe we already need to think about the 2021-2022 school year. As the end of this year approaches we are starting preliminary discussions about class groupings for next year and would like your input. Please take a moment to complete the Parent Input Survey give us more insight on your child. Tell us more about the type of learner your child is and the type of learning environment your child thrives in. This information will help us better match your child to one of our amazing teachers. As you fill out the survey, please DO NOT name teachers. Teaching assignments are made to meet the needs of our students and teacher requests will not be honored. The deadline to complete the survey is May 10 by 4PM.

Lastly, SOL testing for Grades 3-6 will begin this week. By now, all parents/guardians with children in Grades 3-6 should have received communication with information about testing. If you have questions about testing please contact Assistant Principal Bennink (knbennink@fcps.edu). For more information and a schedule for the SOL testing window please visit the Bonnie Brae website.

Have a great week, make sure you are taking time to get our kids (and ourselves) unplugged and outside.

As always, we are going to come out stronger because of each other. Stay safe, take care of yourself and take care of each other.

Best,

Principal Skerker

Looking for lunch volunteers

With more students returning to in-person instruction and CDC guidelines stating students need to remain six feet apart when eating we have had to get creative with lunchtime. Students are eating in the cafeteria and the gym and we need some help monitoring and supporting students during lunch. If you are free from 10:40 - 1:00PM Tuesday through Friday we could use your help. Please respond to the Lunch Support Survey  indicating which day you can commit to helping our students during lunch. The survey closes Friday 4/30 at 4 PM. If you can help you will receive an email from us Monday 5/3 outlining the details and next steps you will need.
