FCPS Grading Flexibility Resources and Summer Program Information

Student Final Grades - Grading Flexibility: Resources and Communication

Dear Rocky Run Families,

As shared in an email from the Superintendent’s Office, FCPS has adopted a series of secondary grading policy changes to help our students achieve a strong finish to the school year.

FCPS is adjusting the grading policy for the 2020-21 school year, to ensure students are not penalized by the challenges brought on by pandemic learning.

Key policy changes for middle school students are listed below:

  • Students receiving a final mark of “D” or “D+” in any course will be assigned a mark of  “P” (pass) as a final mark. This will be automatically applied for any course in which a student receives an “D” or “D+” as a final mark.
  • Use of No Mark, “NM”, instead of “F” grades for final marks for all courses. This will be automatically applied for any course in which a student receives an “F” as a final mark.
  • Allowing middle school students to select a mark of “P” (pass) for any courses for which a passing grade is earned for the final mark. As referenced above, for the 2020-21 school year, final marks of “F” will automatically receive a No Mark, “NM”, and final marks of “D” or “D+” will automatically receive a “P.”

Third quarter report cards and the Pass- No Mark Status Form will be available in ParentVue and were mailed home to all families last week. Students and families are encouraged to carefully consider the option for Pass. Summer Learning Programs at Rocky Run -

IMAGINE Learning Program

We are excited to announce that this summer Rocky Run will offer the IMAGINE program, a learning opportunity for our current English 7, English 8, Math 7 and Pre-Algebra students.

IMAGINE provides middle school students the opportunity to strengthen core Mathematics and English Language Arts skills by focusing on essential standards that will prepare students for success at the start of next school year.

Program Focus:

  • Re-acclimating to school and in-person learning
  • Social Peer & Teacher Interactions
  • Social & Emotional Learning
  • Revisiting and strengthening student understanding of grade level essential standards in English Language Arts and mathematics
    • Opportunities for engaging in authentic tasks and project based learning within English Language Arts & Mathematics

IMAGINE is an all in-person learning experience. The program will run from July 12- July 30, 2021 from 7:20-11:20. Transportation will be provided to eligible students. Students will spend half of their day in an English classroom and the other half in a math classroom exploring content while engaging in social interactions with their peers. Class placement will be determined by the student’s current course enrollment and we will work on closely matching that placement.

Space for the IMAGINE program will be limited. Families interested in having their English 7, English 8, Math 7 and/or Pre-Algebra student have access to the IMAGINE program can complete the interest form here (Care givers must be signed into the student's FCPS Google account to access and complete the form). All interested students will be placed on a waitlist. Eligible students will receive a confirmation email at the end of May to initiate the registration process.

This opportunity is open only to students currently enrolled in English 7, English 8, Math 7 and/or Pre-Algebra. Students interested in other courses or summer programs can visit FCPS Summer Learning Programs to explore other opportunities.
