Graham Road Updates!

Farewell, Ms. Arana!

Our parent liaison, Ms. Annabel Arana has accepted a new position and will no longer be serving our community. Her last day at Graham Road was Tuesday, April 13. Through a global pandemic, numerous shifts in our instructional model and our online learning journey, Ms. Arana has been an essential member of our team and a source of support for so many of our families. She will be missed for sure but we wish her well in her new position!

Please make sure you call the school’s main office at 571-226-2700 if you have immediate needs. We are in the process of finding a replacement and will share more information when a new parent liaison has been hired. Please email Principal Lauren Badini (lebadini@fcps.edu) to learn more about this position if you are interested in applying!

Graham Road Library Books - Returns and Last Holds Pick Up

Our last bus stop delivery of library books will be on Monday, April 19th. However, on May 3 and May 17 the school buses will still run so that parents can drop off any library books from home at any of our regular stops listed below:

  • Linda Lane and Monticello Drive (1:30 – 1:45)
  • Monticello Drive and Monticello Drive at the Shopping Center (1:45 – 1:55)
  • Monticello Drive and Robert Lane (1:55 – 2:05)
  • Monticello Drive and Computer Lab (2:05 – 2:15)
  • Rosemary Lane and Terry Lane (2:20 – 2:30)

When schools closed suddenly last year, many students had library books that they were unable to return. As a result, Graham Road School Library is missing hundreds of books from the collection. To help us in the process of restoring our collection, we are asking that you check around your home for any library books that need to be returned. They will have a barcode and spine sticker as pictured below.

Students attending school in person can bring books in to return. Please help your student locate the books on the list and return them as soon as possible!

Reading Makes Cent$

Reading Makes Cent$ is a program that encourages students to think about economics concepts such as saving, earning, and spending money through literacy.  As part of the program, there is a contest run by Virginia529 to help families save for colleges, universities, community colleges, trade schools, or technical programs.  During library this year, students in K-3 read Spend It, Dreamers, What is Given From the Heart, Save It, and Home in the Woods.  Students in 4-5 read What is Given From the Heart, Save It, Hidden Figures: The True Story of Four Black Women and the Space Race, Whoosh! Lonnie Johnson’s Super Soaking Stream of Inventions, and Home in the Woods.  Families with students in K-5 can now enter the contest to win a Virginia529 account with an initial balance of $529!  Fill out this form before April 30, 2021.  Winners will be announced in June! Visit the Graham Road Library Google Site (log in using your student’s log in information) for additional information. Good luck!
