BMP Family Math Night

Dear Bren Mar Park Families,

We are excited to announce the welcoming back of more students into the building for 4 days/week!  Communication is coming to families who currently have students participating in in-person instruction.  Please read your email for the latest updates.

Many thanks to the staff, students and families who joined us for Family Math Night on Thursday.  The virtual event was filled with fun scavenger hunts, story books and interactive, online activities.

Take care,

Mrs. Williams

Proud BMP Principal

Virtual Students - Computer Restarts Needed

As FCPS continues to push forward technology updates in order to prepare for testing, such as Standards of Learning (SOL) tests, it is important that all students restart computers on the FCPS network.  In-person students will do this as part of the scheduled in-person school day.  For virtual only students, we invite families to walk or drive to the school at a convenient time for you and allow your child to bring his/her computer close to the front door of the school building in order to connect to the FCPS wifi.  Once connected, please have your child restart his or her computer.  This will greatly support efficiency of the laptop and ensure that it is up-to-date with current technology requirements.

Kindergarten Registration

Will your child be 5 years old on or by September 30th?  Then it is time to register your child for kindergarten!  Learn more about the registration process HERE!  The parent information form is HERE. Once you have collected and completed the required documents, you may make an in-person appointment with our student registrar, Ms. Dorian Esteban by calling 703-914-7203 or emailing dsesteban@fcps.edu.

Kindergarten Orientation

For families who are eligible to register for kindergarten for the 2021-22 school year, our kindergarten team and specialists will be hosting a virtual kindergarten orientation to provide families an opportunity to learn more about a 5 day/week kindergarten experience for their child as well as to learn about ways a family could support their child in being better prepared to start kindergarten.  In addition, our registrar will be available to answer registration requirement questions.

Specialist Spotlight

Spotlight on Music

We have been having a fun time in music classes again this quarter! Grades 3-5 have been learning about musical and cultural celebrations all over the world, and have also enjoyed playing “Rhythm impostor”.  In kindergarten we are developing our singing voices very nicely even though our friends at home have to go one at a time- they are being very brave and singing all by themselves and Mrs. Millett is SO PROUD of them! 1st graders have been enjoying our movement activities and they are also getting really good at reading their rhythms! 2nd grade finished up Peter and the Wolf and moved on to learning the instrument families of the orchestra.

Our next two units are called “Move It!” and “Share What You Know”. We will tell you more about them next time!

SOL Testing Calendar

SOL Schedule
  • All SOL tests are taken in-person at school. SOL tests are not available for remote delivery from home. Our staff will schedule specific SOL testing dates for your student. In some cases, it may be necessary for us to schedule an SOL testing appointment on a day when your student is not normally attending at school. For example, certain tests may need to be scheduled on a Monday. If this is the case, bus transportation will be provided to school, as needed.
  • For any SOL assessments this spring, you have the right to refuse testing for your student. The Right to Refuse Assessments webpage (https://www.fcps.edu/node/34277) offers information and considerations as you make this decision. If you choose to refuse the SOL tests, please complete this online Google form. Contact Sandra Chetelat, Parent Liaison at 703-914-7253 if you need help accessing or completing the form.
  • Virtual students will be sent an SOL testing appointment invitation for the day they will test.
