Scottie Tales for the week of April 13

A Note From Your Principal

It is official, spring has sprung. I hope you all enjoyed spring break and with that the start of a return to a more normal life. Personally, it was amazing to spend Saturday watching my 7 year old play softball with her team. Like many of you it has been 13 months since I've seen her play any team sport. I had forgotten how much fun kids have when they play sports. To see her with her new "best friends" playing softball (doing cartwheels in the outfield) made me take a moment to realize how we have been and continue to be impacted by the pandemic.

Last week saw a lot of change to the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year. With Dr. Brabrand's communication about the CDC social distancing recommendation moving from 6 feet to 3 feet we are able to expand the 2 day a week learning opportunity to 4 days a week at this time. The invitation for the in-person learning increase went out Friday and has a firm deadline of April 12, at 5PM. This deadline is in-place to ensure we can get FCPS transportation set for those who are expanding to 4 days a week. At this time there is no option to expand the in-person option to those families who chose to remain in the virtual setting.

SOL testing for grades 3-6 will being in just three short weeks. All parents/guardians with children in grades 3-6 should be receiving communication with information about testing coming soon. If you have questions about testing please contact Assistant Principal Bennink (knbennink@fcps.edu). For more information and a schedule for the SOL testing window please visit the Bonnie Brae website.

Have a great week, make sure you are taking time to get our kids (and ourselves) unplugged and outside.

As always, we are going to come out stronger because of each other. Stay safe, take care of yourself and take care of each other.

Best,

Principal Skerker
