Cardinal's Message

Cardinal's Message

Dear Cunningham Park Families and Friends,

Last week, Superintendent Brabrand sent communication to families and the community about the possibility of schools returning some of their students to 4 days a week of in-person learning based on the staffing and space at each school.  After evaluating our current staffing and our classroom space, we are happy to share that here at Cunningham Park, we will be able to bring back all students (PreK-6) who are currently in-person, for 4 days a week.  This shift to four days a week will begin on Tuesday, April 20th for our current in-person learners.

FCPS is also permitting the return of certain virtual learners as identified by a system called Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).  MTSS outlines specific protocols followed by teams of teachers and specialists to identify students in need of intervention to achieve grade level expectations in an area or areas of learning.  We are contacting families of students who are determined to be eligible beginning the week of April 13th.

Thank you all for your patience and flexibility throughout this year.  With you as our partners, we will continue our work to make sure our entire Cunningham Park family finishes the fourth quarter strong.

Sincerely,

Katie Le, Principal and Jon Kemmerer, Assistant Principal

P2 Focus: Appreciating the Good In Others

by Dr. Keri Mina, CPES Technology Coach

Our Positivity Project trait for this week is appreciating the good in others. People strong in this trait work hard to identify and appreciate others’ character strengths. They are able to freely give sincere compliments and help others feel special. They understand that deeper compliments about someone’s actions or character strengths mean more than surface compliments of looks or the clothes they wear.  These are special people that make us feel welcomed and appreciated in our life.

Our digital citizenship connection to appreciating the good in others is: We define who we are.  If we are not one that naturally appreciates the good in others, the good news is, this is a trait that is easy to improve!  We can make a decision to look for the good in others and give out sincere compliments when we see something we admire in other people.  Always remember, WE define who we are and if we see something we can do better, we can make the decision to improve and take concrete steps to make that improvement happen.

Try this at home: Have each member of your family identify a positive trait for each other family member.  Share a sincere compliment for each family member.  Discuss how it feels to be appreciated.  Talk about how you can share positive feelings by showing appreciation to others in your everyday life.

Quote of the week: “When you choose to see the good in others, you end up finding the good in yourself.”  -Unknown
