Churchill Road Playground Update

pg

At the end of spring break, our playground is nearly complete.

Good news Bobcat Families, our beautiful playground is complete and ready for play starting this coming week.

The new design has brought new life to climbing, sliding and swinging on our playground!

FCPS now permits the use of playground apparatuses during the school day contingent upon the implementation of the required mitigation strategies.  Churchill Road has created a schedule to ensure our new playground is not crowded, reinforcing the expectation of students to socially distance. Teachers will continue to bring a bottle of hand sanitizer outside, so students can comply with county mitigation strategies.

A playground video has also been created in order for you to see the different parts of the playground, along with guidance for how students can safely use the different areas. Click here for this video.

Most importantly, we want to thank all who made this new playground possible.  Thank you to our PTA, led by Christie Buschmann, the PTA Playground Committee, led by Jenny Gillespie, Marci Love Thomas’ grant writing efforts, our retired principal, Mr. Hutzel, and last year’s PTA President, Laurine Maimone.  Additionally, we want to extend a sincere thank you to the FCPS community, The McLean Community Foundation, and Mr. Pete Dailey of FCPS' Facilities team. To our Churchill Road Elementary School Family of students, parents, and staff, thank you for your support of the PTA so things like this are possible for our children. Without so many of you joining the PTA or donating to our Bobcat fund projects like this would not have happened without you. We celebrate this exciting new playground with you!

Allergy Season and COVID-19 Protocols

Allergy season has arrived.  If your child suffers from seasonal allergies, parents must provide/update their child’s Health Information Form and send to Mrs. Breddy in the health room, labreddy1@fcps.edu. Several of the COVID-19 symptoms are also seasonal allergy symptoms and identifying your child’s known seasonal allergy symptoms will help us as we evaluate your child’s health to ensure the continued health and wellness of our students and staff. If your child displays any unexplained or unidentified symptoms listed here, your child will be sent to the Care Room and will be sent home. It will be your responsibility to contact your pediatrician to complete a Sick Student Notification form prior to their reentry to CRES.

Thank you for your diligence screening your child each morning to ensure they are 100% well before sending them to school.  If they are not well, please keep them virtual for the safety of their classmates and staff members.  They will be able to log in and receive the same instruction as they would have in-person.

A Brighter 2021: Ending the School Year Strong, Featuring Ana Homayoun

Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at noon

We know this past year has been filled with so much change and uncertainty for all of us. As we head look to the end of the school year and the beginning of summer, what are ways we can make this time brighter for students and families?

The Safe Community Coalition (SCC) is excited to host noted author Ana Homayoun as she discusses how we set students up socially, emotionally and academically in the midst of remote and hybrid schooling. Ana will address ways to be organized during hybrid and remote learning and discuss how to support healthy socialization and a sense of curiosity and discovery as we head into summer break. Many parents are feeling a sense of underlying anxiety about learning gaps and "feeling behind," and Ana will look at how to address and reframe some of these concerns. Above all, Ana will offer practical, implementable strategies to support student, parent and caregiver well-being.

Ana is the founder of Green Ivy Educational Consulting, LLC, an internationally recognized organization that works with parents, students, educators, and employers. She works with schools, universities and corporations consulting with parents, students, educators and employers about promoting intrinsic motivation, authentic engagement, and overall wellness.

This event is FREE, but registration is required. Registrants will be able to access the video for two weeks following the live event. Register today at www.mcleanscc.org
