A message from Principal Badini

Dear Graham Road Families,

We were so incredibly excited to welcome students back from spring break both online and in-person! It’s hard to believe we just began the last quarter of the school year but it is here! This final quarter will bring yet again more changes to our school operations. Last week our superintendent shared that given updated guidance around distancing from the CDC, FCPS would be “expanding in person learning.” I would like to be very clear that Dr. Brabrand’s statement, which you can read here, does not mean that all students will return to Graham Road for four days of instruction. Please read below for some very important clarifications that are specific to our school.

  • We are in the midst of thorough and detailed analysis of the space and staff available
  • While students can be distanced at 3 feet for instruction, they still require 6 feet of distance for eating breakfast, lunch and snack. Finding space for these times, because children will not be wearing masks, is incredibly challenging.
  • We will continue using our MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support) process to identify students for four days of instruction. (You can read more about MTSS here.)
  • The implementation of this recent change will need to fit within our current structures (i.e. maintaining our current master schedule).

The invitation to return to school four days a week is not by request and there is nothing parents need to do at this time. We will be in touch with families that will be impacted by this recent development. Please note that we will not always be able to accommodate changes for siblings.

I hope you will all understand that we badly want to have students in the building but will continue to be limited by the factors above. We also believe that major changes to schedules, teachers, classes will not be beneficial for nine weeks. As always, please reach out to me with any questions you have!
