A Message from Principal Yacubovich- UPDATED SOL DATES

Reading and Writing

This week Dr. Braband’s message shared information regarding in-person learning opportunities. These changes, including the updated CDC guidance, allow schools to transition from 6 feet to 3 feet social distancing during the instructional part of the day. This change will allow Pine Spring additional flexibility to meet our goal of bringing back all students who had previously expressed the desire to be in-person for two days a week.

We are committed to bringing back as many of our in-person students as our current circumstances allow. Once we can ensure that students on our waitlist have the opportunity to attend in-person instruction two days a week, we will begin to bring back additional students who require four days of in-person instruction. These students will be identified through our Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) process. This process supports our FCPS teachers with being able to identify and provide students with appropriate interventions to meet their individual needs.

You are welcome to view more information on the MTSS process in FCPS here.

Please be aware that various factors prevent us from expanding to a four day. These factors include, but are not limited to, staffing, classroom space, and the continued requirements for students to eat meals (breakfast, snack, and lunch) at 6 feet apart. We must continue to adhere to all of the CDC guidelines and FCPS expectations for furniture, transportation changes, classroom setup, and scheduling changes.

We will be contacting families from the waitlist starting as early as today. We are not able to accept any additional requests to be added to the in-person waitlist at this time.

Should our capacity guidance allow for additional in person time, our school staff will reach out to you. Please know that we are proactively working to accommodate as many students as possible, and there are no actions you need to take at this time.

SOL Testing

New SOL Schedule

Across Virginia, students will be taking Standards of Learning (SOL) tests this spring. Federal and state education departments have decided not to cancel this year’s assessments. In Fairfax County Public Schools, testing for grades 3-8 will be scheduled between April 26 and June 4, 2021. Please see above for specific SOL testing dates.

If you do not wish for your child to take the SOL tests at school this spring, you have the right to refuse testing. The Right to Refuse Assessments webpage (https://www.fcps.edu/node/34277) offers information and considerations as you make this decision. If you choose to refuse testing, please complete this online Google intent form no later than 3 PM on April 16th. Please contact Sydney D’Ornellas at skdornellas@fcps.edu, if you need help accessing or completing the form.

Additional information about the SOL tests can also be found on our website.
