4/7 - Updates on In-Person Learning

Updates on In-Person Learning at Rocky Run:

Dear Rocky Run Families,

I hope everyone had a wonderful spring break.   We have been so happy to welcome all of our students back to class this week and to kick off the fourth quarter strong!

Monday, Dr. Brabrand shared with the community the FCPS plan for moving forward based on the new social distancing guidelines from the CDC. In that communication, Dr. Brabrand acknowledged that each school's implementation of the guidelines will look different. I hope this message will help you to understand how these changes may look at Rocky Run MS as well as the timelines for implementing any changes.

Decision making criteria include:

  • Identifying students using the MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support) process focused on unique student needs for four days of instruction.
  • Space constraints including current occupancy, size of classrooms, and available lunchroom space based on the 6 ft. social distancing expectation for secondary schools that cannot maintain cohorts (students not changing groups throughout the day).
  • Maintaining sufficient space for ALL students to eat lunch without a mask, 6’ apart, and all facing the same direction.
  • Minimizing changes to student and teacher schedules for the fourth quarter.

Given this information, this week we will:

  • Assess each class’ capacity for adding students and determine how many seats are available by class and by period.
  • Invite students via our MTSS process - determining need to attend four days/week starting April 13.
  • As capacity allows, invite students who are currently attending two days a week to attend four days beginning April 20.
  • Rocky Run will reach out to families directly if there is capacity for a current in-person student to attend four days.

While it is our desire to include as many current in-person students in school four days a week as we can, we must continue to focus on safety and mitigation procedures. We appreciate your ongoing patience and understanding as we continue to navigate updated guidance.

Please feel free to reach out to me with questions.
