Principal's Message

This year has been nothing short of challenging at every pass. We have worked tirelessly to make every change, turn and hurdle that has been presented. I want you all to know that as a principal, I work closely with a network of other principals from my McLean Pyramid as well as the collaborative team of new principals I came in with three years ago. Additionally, our network of principals across elementary is strong and we share ideas and lean on each other. Our collaborative team of pyramid principals across McLean meets regularly and communicates in between, this year sometimes daily, to strategize and work together on the challenges presented. I say this to let you know we do this difficult work together, we are a team and we all want what is best for our collective schools across McLean and FCPS. Every principal is doing their very best with the individual situations presented to them, as we always do. I am thankful for my network!

As we prepare to return our in-person students to 4 days of instruction next week, I wanted to share a few reminders:

  • Students should have a towel, blanket should they be eating outside.  Many of our upper grades will have this a daily or regular option.
  • All students need to have a water bottle with them daily.  Please make sure it is a good size to accommodate them for at least 1/2 their school day so refills are not needed often.
  • Cold lunches will continue at Chesterbrook. We are unable to accommodate 4 days and also meet the needs of hot lunches this school year.
  • All students need to have fully charged laptops brought to school on a daily basis. We are now assessing the need of our kindergarten students bringing their laptops to school. I tried to avoid this but we want our students using our best devices. Teachers will follow up with kindergarten families on this possibility.
  • Bus riders will be on a 4 day route beginning soon. Transportation is working as fast as they can to meet the needs of our students. We ask you to check ParentVue to identify the days are in for your child. Call our front office if you have questions.

Kiss N Ride
Thank you for your patience as we have tweaked our system to the best it can be. A few reminders for keeping our kiss n ride smooth.

  • No left turn into the parking lot during pickup and dismissal if it impedes traffic. You can use your best judgement, but at peak times do not turn left. Angry drivers waiting will speed up or drive on the side which could cause an accident or a pedestrian to be hit.
  • Yellow Car Name Tags are vital to quick pickup, thank you for having them visible.
  • Student will be kept in the gym to be announced as you arrive. We announce names on the microphone so they can clearly hear and exit.
  • If you are waiting a while for a child that has not yet arrived you will be asked to park in the lot and wait, so we can continue loading students.
  • Use caution and patience and do not pull around another car unless asked to do so by staff.
  • Do your best to not arrive for dismissal before 3:25. With more students back at school, we can quickly block Kirby if cars stack up too early.  We get them loaded and out quickly.
  • If you would like to have your child added to a bus route, please complete this google form and we will make the change. Transportation is doing the best they can to accommodate.

Please reach out to me at SKirkpatrick@fcps.edu, if you have questions.

Sincerely,

Stacy Kirkpatrick, Principal

A BIG Thank You!

As we have returned students to the building, all classrooms have benefitted from donations.  We wanted to send a huge thank you to our community for donating sanitizing wipes and tissues to the school.  We greatly appreciate them and have put them to good use!

We always welcome these donations to support our classrooms.

Flexible Seating CES Wish List

As we return our students to the building we have some identified needs that will help our school support students. There are a variety of items in our wish list, including seated desks, which will allow our students the benefit to spread out and move when they need to. These could also be used for students eating while seated on the floor/ground. Our teachers appreciate any support, but please know this is only a wish and not an expectation of any family to purchase an item. These items would benefit the school as a whole.
