Update about Four Day

Dear Westbriar Families,

This past Monday, Dr. Brabrand shared more information regarding in-person learning, including the updated CDC guidance which will allow schools to transition from 6 feet to 3 feet masked social distancing, thereby possibly providing more days of in-person instruction. You can read Dr. Brabrand’s full message at: https://www.fcps.edu/node/43232?fbclid=IwAR2pV5o8UVmUvgdFrnQ7HCsfMdWG3hPP9mxH_bNNhTFhG4ag3EMQ2awMYLo

Dr. Brabrand will discuss recent updates from the Governor of Virginia and the Centers for Disease Control at a virtual Town Hall meeting tonight, April 7, from 7-8 p.m.View the meeting on FCPS Cable TV Channel 99 (Verizon Channel 11) or on the FCPS website. Submit your questions in advance by email to returntoschool@fcps.edu or call 1-800-231-6359 during the Town Hall.

We are committed to bringing back as many of our In-Person students to four days of instruction as our capacity, staffing, and scheduling restraints allow, beginning with students identified by our school staff through the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) process.   Please be aware, however, that a variety of factors prevent us from expanding as far as we would like. In addition, our current classroom capacities may prevent us from expanding the option to all students who would like to return. We need time to work out the details regarding space and staffing, such as the continued requirement for students to eat meals (breakfast, snack, and lunch) at 6 feet apart.  We must continue to adhere to all the CDC regulations and FCPS guidelines for furniture, transportation changes, classroom setup and scheduling changes.

Currently our school is estimated at 50% of our students in person which is a higher percentage than several FCPS Schools. There are some schools in FCPS with just 20% of students attending in person. Therefore, you may notice other schools better able to accommodate students attending in person four days a week. Please be patient as we work through the updated guidance to see if we can shift additional In-Person students to four-day instruction in the near future.

Should our capacity guidance allow your child to return to school four days each week, our school staff will contact you within the next two weeks. Please know that we are proactively working to accommodate as many students as possible. We anticipate that our current classroom capacities and staffing will prevent us from expanding the option to all students who would like to return.  There are no actions you need to take at this time to keep to your current In-Person schedule or for your child to be considered for four days of in person instruction.

Thank you for your continued partnership,

Mary Tam
