Oak Hill students and staff had a great time dressing up during Spirit Week.

Update for In-Person Learning

On Monday, Dr. Brabrand shared with the community the school system’s plan for moving forward based on the new social distancing guidelines from the CDC. In that communication, Dr. Brabrand acknowledged that each school will look different. I hope this message will help you to understand how these changes will look at Oak Hill as well as the timelines for implementing any changes.

Here are a couple of pieces of information that we think will be helpful to you as we plan our next steps:

  • We will continue using our MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support) process to identify students for four days of instruction.
  • We will assess our space challenges including current occupancy, size of classrooms, furniture, and lunchroom space.
  • Schools need sufficient space for all students to eat lunch without a mask, still 6’ apart, and all facing the same direction.
  • The implementation of this recent change will need to fit within our current structures (i.e. maintaining our current master schedule).

Given this information, this week we will:

  • Assess each grade level/class’ capacity for adding additional students.
  • Invite students via our MTSS process/needs to attend four days/week.
  • Determine how many additional “seats” we have in each classroom and proceed to students on our waiting lists- beginning with students currently here two days/week.
  • We will be in touch with families that will be impacted by this recent development.

During the week of April 12th, families whose students are currently receiving in-person instruction may receive an email inviting their child or children to attend school in-person 4 days per week. 4 day a week instruction will begin on Tuesday, April 20th. Our classrooms will continue to include virtual-only students as well.

Based on a variety of factors, we do not have space to accommodate any additional in-person requests at this time.

This school year has been filled with many challenges and changes. The one thing that has remained constant is the dedication of our outstanding teachers and staff to provide the best learning experience for our students. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through this most recent change

Math Tip of the Week

s

As we enter into the 4th quarter, most grade levels are starting or will start learning about Geometry.  Students learn to identify and describe shapes as well as learn about spatial relationships in their environment.  Having this foundation will help students as geometry becomes more complex in the upper grades and beyond.  Here are some ways that you can bring geometry to life at home:

  1. Identify shapes and sizes: when playing, have your child identify things by their shape and their size.
  2. Build structures using blocks or old boxes: Discuss the need to build a strong base.  Ask your child which shapes stack easily and why.
  3. Hide a toy and use directional language to help your child find it: Give clues using words and phrases such as up, down, over, under, between, through, and on top of.
  4. Play “I Spy” and look for shapes.
  5. Go on a shape hunt: have your child look for as many circles, squares, triangles, rectangles, etc that they can find in the home or out in the neighborhood.  Do the same with three dimensional objects like cubes, cones, spheres, and cylinders.
