Weekly News from Silverbrook ES

Happy Spring Break!

spring break

Dear Families,

On behalf of the Silverbrook staff please have a wonderful and safe spring break, we look forward to seeing our students on April 6th. As a reminder, when students return, teachers will no longer meet them in the foyer during arrival. Students will come in, retrieve their breakfast from the café and walk to class. There will be staff members in the hall to support. Grade level teachers will meet students at the threshold of the classroom door. During dismissal students will be released to their designated spaces, beginning with walkers and Kiss & Ride students, afterward we will release bus riders. The only exception to this process will be for our kindergarten students; kinder teachers and instructional assistants will continue to escort students to their designated places.

ADVANCED ACADEMIC PROGRAMS (AAP)

SCREENING FOR SCHOOL-BASED (LEVEL II-III) SERVICES

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) offers a continuum of advanced academic services for all students in grades K-8.  Learning experiences are designed to develop higher-level thinking through enrichment, acceleration, and extensions of the Program of Studies (POS).  Teachers, administrators, and advanced academic resource teachers (AARTs) work together to provide various levels of school-based services in each elementary school. https://www.fcps.edu/academics/elementary-school-academics-k-6/advanced-academics An AAP Overview Video is available under general information: https://www.fcps.edu/academics/academic-overview/advanced-academic-programs

Screening for school-based services is done schoolwide each spring to determine services for the next school year. All Silverbrook students in grades 2-5 are automatically screened for potential services. No parent referral is required. Multiple criteria are used to screen students for all levels of AAP services.  Parents or guardians are notified over the summer if a student has been found eligible by the local screening committee for part-time services.

If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher or Mrs. Diane Wadsworth (Advanced Academics Resource Teacher)
