Multicultural Night 2021

Multicultural Night 2021

Dear Woodburn Families,

The past few weeks have been exciting across FCPS! Our school buildings went from silent to joyful as our students returned to in-person instruction. As of March 19, more than 109,000 students and staff have returned for in-person learning. We love seeing our wildcats at school and look forward to all that is to come after spring break.

Updated CDC guidance released on March 19 allows schools to adjust social distancing from six feet to three feet with universal masking in classroom settings. FCPS will be reviewing the new guidance with schools, the Fairfax County Health Department, and other stakeholders this coming week, and will be proposing next steps after completing a thorough review. In the meantime, we will continue to follow the CDC’s recommended mitigation strategies to keep students and staff safe in schools.

Thank for the continued support you show us and our staff.  We are honored to partner with you to support your children’s education.  We wish you a restful spring break.  We look forward to seeing all students on Tuesday, April 8.

Together we grow!

Katy and Bridget

Spring Break Travel Guidance

Spring break is March 29-April 2, and Monday, April 5 is a teacher workday. We hope you take time for some well-deserved rest and relaxation! If you make plans to travel, please consider the following information:

  • The Virginia Department of Health urges all Virginians to avoid non-essential travel, especially if you are at higher risk of serious COVID-19 or if you will be visiting someone at higher risk of serious COVID-19. This recommendation applies to everyone, even if you have been vaccinated against COVID-19 or have fully recovered from COVID-19.
  • FCPS does not currently have travel restrictions. Students are not required to quarantine or provide COVID 19 test results for either domestic or international travel. Parents may opt to keep their students at home for 14 days after they return from travel, however, it is not required.

Upon returning, any student, staff member or visitor demonstrating symptoms of illness is asked to stay home to help “Stop the Spread” of COVID-19.

AAP Parent Information Session, April 8

We will be holding a virtual information session on Thursday, April 8 at 7 pm to share details about the levels of services provided at Woodburn through the Advanced Academic Program (AAP) and how you can advocate for your child’s participation. Spanish interpretation will be provided.

Every spring, Woodburn screens all of our students for eligibility in Levels 2 or 3. Parents of kindergarteners through 5th grade have the opportunity to refer their child for Level 2 or Level 3 services by submitting the referral linked here by April 16th. It’s always important for families to be a part of this process and for your voices heard.

We hope to see you there! If you have any questions about the information session or the AAP, please contact Margie Campbell at mmcampbell@fcps.edu

Kiss & Ride

As more students have phased back in, we wanted to share with you that our Kiss & Ride procedures have changed during dismissal. In the past years, students were called to the cafeteria to sit and be dismissed as the cars arrived. However, due to the notion of co-mingling this year, we are unable to have students congregate in the cafeteria. Therefore, students are walking from their classrooms to the cars. We appreciate your understanding, as it may take students a bit longer to exit the building.
